A wonderful turnout today in Alva for the Remembrance Parade. Lovely to see so many pupils representing uniformed groups, bearing flags, laying wreaths and performing. Alva Academy will never forget. @poppyscotland @PoppyLegion

A proud moment for Alva Academy. We have just learned that we have secured our Level 2 status in Holocaust Education for a further 3 years until 2027!

Thank you to @CWGC for a very interesting tour of Rosebank Cemetery - some fascinating stories for our S3 pupils.

S3 pupils thoroughly enjoyed their tour of Lady Haig's Poppy Factory in Edinburgh. Pupils learned about the origin of the poppy & completed a range of activites to build on existing skills & knowledge @poppyscotland

Very honoured to have been asked to lay a wreath on behalf of the school at the Menin Gate ceremony last night. All this before a very emotional and reflective ceremony of our own watched over by our own soldier. Lives changed for the better as always @MercatToursInt

Today we marched. Today we sang together. Today we gave our own soldiers identities. Today we remembered. Today we learned of the sacrifices on both sides. Today we paid tribute to them all. Today we understood and thanked those who gave us our tomorrows. @MercatToursInt

A very moving and fact-filled day in France. Today we were ready to enter some of the countless WW1 cemeteries and walked across no man’s land. We were also able to pay special and personal tributes to some of our relatives. @MercatToursInt

14th Alva Pals paid their respects today at Blackwatch Corner near Ypres after singing WW1 songs to boost morale on the journey from Amsterdam.

A very moving and emotional visit to Messines Church. 3 important life messages. Nothing is impossible, Music is so important & learn languages.

Our footballers paid a poignant tribute at the site of the Christmas Truce this morning surrounded by their pals.

Walking in the footsteps of our ancestors. Imagining what those poor boys went through whilst in the actual WW1 trenches and what went through their minds just before going over the top. Lots of insightful questions but also many compliments on conduct and respectfulness.

“Keep the home fires burning, til the boys come home”. The 14th Alva Pals. 39 children leaving for the battlefields of Belgium and France. 39 young adults will return, changed for the better.
