LaGuardia Airport Closed After Runway Collision That Killed Two Pilots 😳 Two pilots were killed and dozens of people were injured at New York's LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night when an arriving Air Canada Express plane and a fire-and-rescue vehicle collided on a runway, officials said. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the airport, said in a statement that the pilot and co-pilot were killed in the collision and 41 people were taken to hospitals — 39 from the aircraft and two Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting officers from the truck. Port Authority Executive Director Kathryn Garcia told reporters Monday morning that initial indications were 32 people had been released but there were also serious injuries. Garcia said Air Canada Flight 8646, operated by Jazz Aviation, had 72 passengers and four crew members on board. CBS News Investigative Unit senior producer Pat Milton cited a source as saying it appeared the collision was an accident and there was no foul play or terrorism suspected. LaGuardia was closed. FAA Statement Air Canada Express Flight 8646 struck an Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle after landing on Runway 4 at LaGuardia Airport in New York. The accident occurred around 11:40 p.m. local time on Sunday, March 22. The CRJ-900 was arriving from Montreal. The FAA and NTSB will investigate. The NTSB is in charge of the investigation and will provide all updates. The airport is closed. Visit the NOTAM site for additional information. This information is preliminary and subject to change.
