By operating on blockchain technology, these digital assets enable near-instant, and 24/7 settlement, This effectively (1) bypasses high bank fees and compresses margins for incumbents relying on fees. (need to examine banks revenue lines and breakdowns). And (2) improves slow processing times that are associated with traditional bank transfers. Why wait for a bank to make payment for two days when you have blockchain. Additionally, Blockchain technology is a threat to the revenue lines that are associated with “transfer fees” Banking stocks have not yet priced in this potential disruption to margins. Moreover, interest rates coming down, lower inflation, and talks of removing Prime may compress NIM further. None of these potential changes are priced in yet. IMO. Market confuses crypto, stablecoins, bitcoin, and blockchain as one thing.
