Today, The Hon’ble Supreme Court directed removal of stray dogs from schools, hospitals, and major public transport hubs, and asked NHAI and other road-owning agencies to remove stray cattle/animals from national and state highways and house them in shelters. With respect, these directions are not sustainable, conflict with the ABC Rules, 2023, and are practically not implementable at scale. The affected parties were not heard. If you run, own or know an educational institution, please speak up and support your campus animals through ABC-compliant, humane management. #saveindiandogs #SupremeCourtofIndia

Maybe the enthusiastic SC can take suo motu cognizance and order the removal of all polluted air from public institutions in 8 weeks. Any laxity to be viewed seriously. #SupremeCourtofIndia

NEW BLOG: Global discourse on climate change has been moulded by multilateral negotiations through the annual Conferences of the Parties (COPs). This commentary by @_sharmaisha_, @AmanJSrivastava and @Nikita_Shukla02 traces the evolution of climate multilateralism, examines where it falls short of expectations, and discusses how it can address its shortcomings to build a more effective ambition and implementation agenda. 1/2 “While developing countries should certainly continue undertaking greater climate actions – in their own interests, enabled by their greater capacities – developed countries should not demand climate finance contributions from developing countries before first correcting their historical imbalances in good faith” - @AmanJSrivastava and @Nikita_Shukla02 write in @thewire_in.

As #COP30 nears, calls for larger developing countries to “step up” as #climatefinance providers have been growing louder. But this framing overlooks how unmet finance promises from developed countries have shaped developing countries' emissions trajectories. How then should financing obligations be distributed to better reflect differentiated responsibilities? @AmanJSrivastava and @Nikita_Shukla02 argue in @thewire_in that had finance needs been met earlier, countries like India could have invested in low-carbon technologies and processes sooner, and may have had the opportunity to lock in to a lower emissions trajectory. Any future financial burden-sharing must account for these historical shortfalls — developed countries should not be calling for climate finance contributions from developing countries before first correcting for the impacts of their historical imbalances. Otherwise, the global climate finance system risks deepening inequities rather than correcting them. thewire.in/environment/wh…

Meanwhile, in what the @MCD_Delhi planned to convert into a shelter, a dog was found in this condition. The dog was found locked in a washroom on the 2nd floor, left to die a lonely, miserable death. Is this the सोने की चिड़िया we're building? Thankfully, he was rescued by a brave set of compassionate people. 🙏🏾🙏🏾 @SupremeCourtIND @narendramodi #SaveDelhiNCRDogs

The MCD 311 app has seen a rise in problematic reports. 1. Screenshots of videos from other cities are being tagged as Delhi 2. Photos of non-aggressive dogs and even people are being marked as street dogs to be caught under the ‘Veterinary Catching of Street Dogs'. @MCD_Delhi please strengthen verification protocols to ensure the app serves its intended purpose.

The Union Cabinet’s recent approval of the ₹1 lakh crore Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) Scheme marks a potentially transformative moment for India’s technology and industrial policy. But to enhance the effectiveness of the scheme, Kashmeera Patel, @AmanJSrivastava and @na_easwaran suggest : 1) Targeted prioritisation of technologies 2) Develop technology foresight and sectoral roadmaps 3) Define success through commercialisation Read: sustainablefutures.org/blog/one-lakh-…

Last week, the SFC team gathered in Alwar, Rajasthan, for a retreat to reflect on our journey so far, propose new ideas, and receive honest and critical feedback on our work from one another. We dove into some of the most pressing issues shaping the frontiers of climate, energy, and environmental landscape in India and globally, exploring how we should engage with them, position ourselves within the ecosystem, and collaborate meaningfully with actors spanning grassroots organisations to policy institutions. It was a space to connect the dots, challenge each other’s assumptions, and think more deeply about the work we do and why it matters. We also learned many new things about each other, such as that @AshwiniKSwain is a deep ghazal lover, @AmanJSrivastava is a classical guitarist extraordinaire, @tamannadalal99 named herself, and that @MahajanAnnanya once unintentionally spotted a snow leopard.

NEW BLOG: “Insights from modelling studies are only as reliable as the methods used to generate them. A more nuanced and transparent approach to modelling is therefore essential—one that allows policymakers to better understand the scope, limitations, and defensibility of study findings” - @Nikita_Shukla02, @AmanJSrivastava and @na_easwaran write in their latest blog stressing the need for greater transparency, comprehensiveness, and credibility in climate modelling studies. At the panel discussion, "Climate change – Opportunities and tradeoffs for India 2047 development goals", organised by @FletcherSchool at @TuftsUniversity for its Master of Global Business Administration (GBA) students on 19 March 2025 in New Delhi, @na_easwaran, Fellow (SFC) was moderator, along with @AmanJSrivastava, Fellow (SFC), Aman Malik, Programme Lead (@CEEWIndia) and @TandonSuranjali, Associate Professor, (@nipfp_org_in) as panelists. The discussion emphasised the risks of a business-as-usual climate approach, the need for integrated climate-development strategies, targeted R&D, green industrial policy, financial system alignment, and institutional coherence to ensure long-term resilience, competitiveness, and strategic positioning in India's low-carbon transition.

The Climate Futures Project has been conceptualised with an aim to develop a more nuanced and transparent approach to modelling. In this blog, @Nikita_Shukla02, @AmanJSrivastava and @na_easwaran explore why the results of climate modelling studies often vary so widely. They highlight that "insights from modelling studies are only as reliable as the methods used to generate them," stressing the need for greater transparency, comprehensiveness, and credibility in climate modelling studies. sustainablefutures.org/blog/navigatin…
