Day 1 of our @YaleEmotion writing retreat is over - the overwhelming theme was teamwork. People kept huddling to support each other, solve a quick problem, share a technique or resource & off they’d go! I expected to be productive, I did not expect to feel so connected 💕

Had a great conversation with @hubermanlab, where we tackled important questions about the intersection of personality and emotional intelligence. Here is a simple way to think about it: Personality is our tendency to experience the world a certain way. It drives our preferences. Introverts recharge in quiet spaces and extroverts prefer more stimulation (generally speaking). Emotional intelligence is what we do with our emotions. Highly emotionally intelligent people use their emotions and personality wisely to make the best decisions, have the best relationships, and achieve their goals. Make sure to tune in and to share your thoughts about the conversation.
Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D.@hubermanlab

What is the relationship between your personality and pattern of emotional processing? As told to @hubermanlab by Dr @marcbrackett of @Yale on the Huberman Lab podcast out now.

I got the most interesting gift for my 55th birthday (yesterday)! I received an email from someone in my childhood who was one of the bullies. He shared how much my book, Permission To Feel, had helped him through a rough period of his adult life. I’m not sure how strong his memories are about middle and high school. Mine are locked in. Nevertheless, I felt freedom. Bullies aren’t born, they are made. Which means people can change and become kinder with the right relationships and an emotion education. @YaleEmotion @rulerapproach #EmotionalIntelligence

Thank you @marcbrackett for the work you do - You’re improving the quality of what we can do to support educators!

NEW #EmotionalIntelligence RESEARCH ALERT Across multiple studies we found that educator well-being is associated with the emotionally intelligent behavior of their school leaders - something we’ve known intuitively, but now have the empirical evidence to demonstrate it. Note: leaders’ EI skills mattered more in times of crisis. The real test of emotionally intelligent leadership is when leaders use their skills when they’re needed the most. Congratulations team @YaleEmotion @rulerapproach. Link to full article here: frontiersin.org/journals/psych… #emotionalintelligence @caselorg @YaleCSC

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Exchange
“I am not a touchy feely guy. I am into SEL because I know the science & data. When we learn these skills, we have higher attendance & outcomes in reading & math. We see prosocial markers in many studies.” Eric Gordon, Cleveland superintendent to our superintendent roundtable.
