As many of you will already know, menopause and perimenopause can have a debilitating impact on women and cause symptoms including anxiety, mood swings, brain fog, headaches, and hot flushes - all of which have a huge impact on working life. The Fawcett Society found that one in 10 women have quit their jobs because of menopausal symptoms, and our own Newson Health analysis showed that a lack of menopause awareness and support is costing the UK close to £10 billion. This is incredibly sad: dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-… As a menopause specialist and GP, every year I see hundreds of women who are struggling with menopause, and thousands more reach out on social media. One of the reasons I decided to write my book was because a lady called Victoria took her own life in 2021, after a two-year struggle with her mental health. How many more women do we have to see take their own life before this is taken seriously? The lack of knowledge and recognition of the impact of hormones on our mental health means that many women are missing out on the support they need and this urgently needs to change.
