From intern to full-time meteorologist, my time at Channel 15 is coming to an end. I've decided to turn my career away from TV weather- no more 2AM alarms for me! This will be my final weekend on the Morning Show ☀ ((don't feel the need to bring up the bangs))

The @NCAR_Science is quite literally our global mothership. Nearly everyone who researches climate and weather - not only in the US, but around the world - has passed through its doors and benefited from its incredible resources. The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) supports the scientists who fly into hurricanes, the meteorologists who develop new radar technology, the physicists who envision and code new weather models, and yes - the largest community climate model in the world. That too. Dismantling NCAR is like taking a sledgehammer to the keystone holding up our scientific understanding of the planet. usatoday.com/story/news/pol…

Storms on Aug. 9 created a 1,000-year event in southeast Wisconsin — but what does that mean? It refers to the probability of an event of that size, not the frequency of its occurrence. Notice how amounts that would constitute a 1,000-year rainfall vary across the state! #wiwx

So far, the highest preliminary total we've seen reported by NWS for yesterday was just 0.08" shy of the state's single-day rainfall record. #wiwx

Introducing a new series, NOAAstalgia: Picturing Our Past. Every other week, The NOAA Heritage Program will be sharing photos from NOAA's history. In this week's photo, a young woman launches a pilot weather balloon. Women's first professional opportunities in meteorology occurred as a result of World War II. Women joined the Weather Bureau (the predecessor to today’s National Weather Service) as observers and forecasters to fill job vacancies. By 1945, more than 900 women were in the Bureau, with many offices made up almost entirely of women. Keep up with the NOAAstalgia series at noaa.gov/heritage/noaas…
