A developmental “truth” is that the language system starts bilateral and left-lateralizes w/ age. @Amanda_M_OBrien & I co-led a large-scale 🧠study tinyurl.com/LangNetDevPrep & found lateralization is already adult-like by age 4! w/ @ev_fedorenko, @gabrieli_john, @rebecca_saxe🧵 1/n

Autistic children often show reduced phonological working memory as measured by nonword repetition. Our work, led by @Amanda_M_OBrien, investigates which brain networks (speech perception, working memory, or speech production) underlie such difficulties. doi.org/10.1016/j.nicl…

Grateful for #SNL2022 for creating opportunities for great science AND reunions with friends. Fun to be reunited with @gabrieli_john lab members past (@krsitek @tmcentanni @qzhever @NeuroTyler) and present (@Amanda_M_OBrien @HalieOlson).

Psyched to share the first results from a ~7yr journey, from an email I sent to @Nancy_Kanwisher in 2014 about an idea to develop lang(uage) 'localizers' for as many of the world's langs as possible to having fMRI data from native speakers of 45 langs. tinyurl.com/b5xv7e32 1/n

Kristy Johnson kicking off the panel on Quantifying land and communication in minimally verbal individuals @#INSAR2022!

Excited to be together with @HalieOlson and Kristy Johnson at #INSAR2022 to present our poster “Let’s Talk About Trains: Personalized Stories about Special Interests Increase Language Network Activation in Children with and without ASD” tonight from 5:30-7 (408.014).

Thank you to our 2022 SHBT Distinguished Lecturer, Professor Liberty Hamilton (@LibertySays), for your fantastic talk on a parallel pathway for speech that bypasses primary auditory cortex. Our first in-person lecture in three years could not have been more engaging!

Excited to share our new preprint on participation of females in autism research: Empirical evidence for a “leaky” recruitment-to-research pipeline, in collaboration with Isabelle Frosch, Cindy Li, Annie Cardinaux, and @gabrieli_john. psyarxiv.com/g65vk (1/6)
