The Institute of Catholic Culture had a good lecture on the Just War Theory by Fr. William Saunders back in 2010. Pope Leo would be good to listen to it. Towards the end at around 45 minutes he actually addresses pre-emptive war by then speaking of Iran developing mass destructive weapons. I agree with you. The Pope pronouncement his his opinion. It is not infallible, as infallibility of the Pope is only on matters of the faith and then only when done ex cathedra. The last time that happened was 1953. I stated in another comment that the Catho l ic Church has long had a Just War Theory dating back to both St. Augustine and Thomas Aquinas. Pope Francis determined that the destructive power of modern war negated war in all circumstances. Unfortunately Pope Leo seems to hold to that. In terms of Iran Pope Leo is being naive and ignoring Iran's 47 year history of sponsoring terrorism, desiring the destruction of Israel and even the United States. If both sides of a conflict truly want peace, then I would agree. Not everyone does, so what are we supposed to do? Just lay down our arms and let others destroy us, our families including children? Sorry, but this comment seems naive at best. We must never discount human nature and the evil that lurks in the human heart, just waiting to find release. Because Satan is eager to take advantage of those who refuse to fight against that evil, whether it's to protect ourselves, our family, our community, and yes, our nation.

Certainly we should all be for peace, however Pope Leo position on Iran seems to ignore what the Islamic Regime has stood for during the pastc47 years. He is ignoring their desire for a nuclear weapon. He is also ignoring the Catholic Churches Just War Theory. The hegemony of Middle East dominion that Iran has desired, the elimination of Israel, America, all infidels has never shown a desire as Pope Leo desires for true dialog. I respect and pray for Pope Leo on directing the Catholic Church, but on this issue I feel he is not fully appreciating the evil and dishonest nature of Iran and its desire for nuclear weapons and elimination of Israel or c domination of the Middle East.

God does not bless any conflict. Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs. Military action will not create space for freedom or times of #Peace, which comes only from the patient promotion of coexistence and dialogue among peoples.

Sunday is Divine Mercy sunday. A friend told me that you if go for confession and receive the Eucharist on Divine Mercy sunday, your time in purgatory will be reduced (or removed I think, not sure) How true is this?

Non-Catholics will never know the actual grace that comes in t h e confessional.and the words of absolution. As with Protestants we as Catholics pray to Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins prior to entering v t h e confessional, however after confessing our sins and receiving the words of absolution there is a release of the anxiousness, the tension those sins, those temptations those weaknesses hold over us. They vanish and there is a calm that at least for a time revives t h e soul, and those temptations have less power, then when we first began seeking forgiveness. That can only be from God's grace through the h e sacrament. My wife was Baptist when we first married, and converted 6 years later. She was nervous about doing her first communion. When she finished she said she n ever felt her sins we e e truly forgiven until she did confession and heard t h e words of absolution.

John 20:22-23, Matthew 18:18. Going for confession is scriptural. Jesus commands us to do it. Go and see a priest and confess your sins to him so you can be absolved from it and free from the shackles of Satan. Even the Holy Father goes to confession. You have no excuse as to why you should not go. Jesus is waiting for you at the confessional.

Praying the rosary, is meditating on the mysteries while reciting the Hail Mary, Our Father, Glory Be, and Fatima Prayer. Perfect analysis. As the WH said earlier the Iranisn 10 point plan found its way into the cylindrical file very quickly. My fear right now is a peace settlement that keeps the current regime in power. That is a de f eat for the Iranian population. My two cents. Take every statement coming from the Iranian Government and Iranian media with a massive grain of salt. They will, in all likelihood, continue to reference adherence or non-adherence to the "10 Point Plan" that they have widely shared. However, given that there is zero chance the Trump administration agreed to all 10 of those supposed points, we should be operating under the premise that negotiations are happening surrounding framework that has not been made public. Iran publicizing their own version of this framework allows them to talk tough and save face, while actually working to achieve something behind the scenes. Contrary to what many on this site want you to think, Iran is indeed not winning. Recall, on Monday Iran said it would never negotiate with the US under current circumstances, and less than two days later they announced they were in fact negotiating. So, my advice would be to have patience and hesitate to react to every single report that breaks, because it's 90% noise right now. All I know is that this will become clearer with time, but there is not a chance in hell that the US has or will ever agree to the public 10 Point Plan put forward by the Iranians.

@almarquardt There are way too many influencers and partisans trying to make their own news. Many are obvious. There are a few that seem plausible, but then there is the question I always poise, "if this is true why am I not seeing this from legitimate news sources?"

Unless I see verification of an event from multiple, trustworthy sources, I will believe nothing. Simple posts without links or with supposed screenshots of news sources are automatically rejected.
