@davidcantu14600 @remarks Not because they care about the cost of the food, but because they are trying to hit metrics and keep the line moving so any deviation from the standard process counts against them.

@lulumeservey Really? I don't think about the design of it at all, I think about the destruction of local utilities propped up by propaganda and false promises made before construction.

@SteveOnSpeed You can take out "work my ass off", that isn't necessary. Just do quality work and make sure you get noticed and you don't need to exhaust yourself. Negotiate every single time and you'll almost always walk away with at least $5-10k more.

I’ve done some unspeakable things to build wealth. Things like: - Ask for raises - Work my ass off - Show up every day - Trade my PTO in for cash - Get the 4% company match - Switch companies every 4 years - Don’t take “You’re crazy” for an answer

@robbysoave A few people make a ton of money for a few months, not a single one of them is from the area that the data center is in. Then the data center becomes fully operational, employing almost nobody and again, most jobs outsourced and no opportunities for locals.

You’re usually 100-150 miles into a flight before you’ve reached cruising altitude no? And then once you prepare for descent you’re right back in your seat belts. There’s really not enough time for flight attendants to make rounds on short flights. This makes sense to me.
Andrew Lokenauth | TheFinanceNewsletter.com@FluentInFinance

BREAKING: Delta Air Lines will no longer offer free snacks or drinks on all flights starting May 19th (under 350 miles). Meanwhile, Delta CEO Ed Bastian received $27.1 million in 2024. Consumers lose, every single time.

@SnazzyLabs And almost all of the financial benefits of this data center will go to people living in other states. So the locals will pay more for electricity and water so someone who never even visits Utah can buy another mansion in Hawaii.

Why are Utahns mad? This data center will use more than 2x of the ENTIRE STATE’S current power usage and will be powered entirely by natural gas. It will be placed in the desert which due to topography has extremely limited water and (already) the worst air quality in the USA.
More Perfect Union@MorePerfectUS

Kevin O'Leary's massive data center was approved by a county commission in Utah last night. At 40,000 acres, it would be 2.5x the size of Manhattan. The commission approved the proposal despite opposition from hundreds of locals.

@eimajuno @HQNewsNow No, they should ban all the flavors and stop selling toxic candy that is getting our children addicted to nicotine. Saying this as someone who was addicted to vaping, the ban on flavors made it easy to quit because they tasted like shit.

@HQNewsNow This is a good thing. They should federalize it, expand it to pouches, and override the flavor bans in states like California.

Convinced my sister to open a Roth IRA in 2017 and max it annually. Checked her account today and saw: Balance - $141,569 Gains - $72,673 (51.3% of account value) Avg return - 14.2% All she does? Lump-sums in January. Buys index funds. Doesn't log back in until the next year.

@AustyUSA Most companies have already invested in gas powered equipment, they keep buying it because it's what they have and so economies of scale hasn't worked its way into lowering the cost of electric equipment.

All the lawn care companies in my area still use gas tools. Seems like it would be a no brainer to get an electric pickup and all-electric tools, then you can charge batteries from the truck all day and be way less noisy/stinky. Is there a reason this hasn’t happened at all?

@Kronykal Hi, I started smoking week every day about 4 years ago and in that time I have significantly progressed in my career and more than doubled my salary. I think it makes me better at what I do. Your mileage may vary, no one can define your outcome except you.

100%. Anyone under 25 shouldn’t touch it for the simple fact that if you become a habitual user you will stop progressing. In everything. No it’s not going to kill you. I know that. But it will sap your will to do anything to advance yourself as a person. The first 10 years after school are the most important in your career and you need to be motivated and busy if you want to be able to relax later on. Then you can smoke as much as you want.

@LoganDobson This works great if you have an unlimited capacity to produce burgers. Maybe we should build the burger stands BEFORE the data centers? Seems pretty fucking obvious actually.

Imagine you run a 24 hour hamburger joint. You do pretty well. You sell 1000 burgers a week for $10 each, netting $5 on each. But almost all your money is made during “peak” hours when demand is highest — lunch, dinner. You net $5000 a week. Then a big change. A 24 hour factory opens across the street. The workers at the factory don’t have a set lunch hour, so they just run out for burgers whenever they feel hungry, roughly evenly distributed throughout the day and night. Burger demand surges — a little bit during those peak hours, but also at all hours of the night, mid-afternoon, early morning, all times you previously weren’t selling many burgers and your staff was mostly sitting around. With the surge in demand, you’re now selling 2000 burgers a week. You cut the price to $8 per burger (to encourage more factory customers), so you now net $6000 per week. Demand went way up, but you cut prices and are making more revenue and profit. At this point you might think I’ve told you a story about hamburgers. I’ve actually told you a story about data centers and electricity prices.

Spirit Airlines only needed $500 million to survive. We’ve already spent $25 billion on the Iran War. Which one directly improves American lives more? A low-cost carrier staying in the market or another war in the Middle East?
