Someone who dresses as Napoleon and actually thinks They ARE Him versus someone who uses his likeness digitally as a mere virtual signifier - who’s the real LARPer? 2) Social meaning is itself illusory, in other words, nihilism. The only way to escape LARP = embrace the System. But what nihilists don’t know is that this, too, is LARP. When you understand “LARP” consciously, you recognize it as the narrative structure of morale, meaning, and social existence. You have no illusions it is some directly tangible thing. All human beings exist within a transcendental horizon of narratively-mediated existence, and that is not fiction. That is the form through which objective social reality, something materially real, articulates itself. Ancient peoples were not “stupid unenlightened savages.” They didn’t actually confuse their folk tales, religious narratives, “myths” and legends for an immediately tangible material reality. Everything meaningful to human beings can be called “LARP.” The sensuous coherence of reality itself, even as it appears the most bare and ordinary to us, depends upon a transcendental horizon of LARP. Unravel the transcendental LARP of even the most cynical and realistic of scientists, and watch them lose their minds. Apply this to anyone you know. Unravel their transcendental LARP and see if they can be normal. Try it.
