Last week, @cdri_world Director General @AmitProthi joined the climate roundtable with @UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres at @UNinIndia. CDRI is collaborating with many UN agencies to enhance climate and disaster #resilience of infrastructure systems and communities in #SIDS. The discussion centered around #resilience investments #SIDS and strengthening climate finance for #resilientinfrastructure.

Discussions centered around operationalizing #resilience, bridging global mandates, and systematic risk-informed planning.

The Coalition for Disaster Resilience (CDRI) announced exciting news at #COP29! Four OECS Member States – Antigua, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Saint Lucia – are recipients of grants to implement disaster resilience projects.

CDRI announced awardees of the US$ 8 million funding to support SIDS under @cdri_world’s IRIS programme. The 12 projects across 18 SIDS, focus on strengthening #resilience of key infrastructure sectors. 🔽 DG @AmitProthi shares the news at #COP29 in #Baku. @DDIndialive

Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. @nsitharaman chaired the Roundtable on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, on the sidelines of the World Bank and IMF #AnnualMeetings2024, in Washington DC, today. The Roundtable saw participation from H.E. Situmbeko Musokotwane, Minister of Finance, Zambia; H.E. Lyondo Lekey Dorji, Minister of Finance, Bhutan; H.E. Valery Ramonjavelo, Minister of Transport & Meteorology, Madagascar; H.E. Victor Hugo Guilherme, Minister of Planning, Angola; H.E. MR. @AbdourazakIBRA3, Minister of Finance, Comoros; H.E. Mr. @ted_lwamba, Minister of Resources, Democratic Republic of Congo; H.E. Ms. Saada Mkuya Salum, Minister Of Finance, Zanzibar and also representing Tanzania); H.E. Mr. @Ahmed_shide1, Minister of Finance, Ethiopia; Ms. @MariaEbiacaMoet, Secretary of State for Planning, Ministry of Finance, Planning & Economic Development, Equitorial Guinea; Ms. @misumilas, Deputy Administrator, @USAIDPolicy; Mr. Jack Levine, Senior Director for Climate Change, US National Security Council; and Mr. Kevin Macron, French Climate Envoy, Ministry of Europe & Foreign Affairs. Welcoming all the participants, FM Smt. @nsitharaman said that Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi created the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure #CDRI to transform our infrastructure systems for resilience against today's natural disasters and adapt to #ClimateChange. FM Smt. @nsitharaman stressed on the danger of the development gains being undercut by increasing climate-induced risks to #infrastructure and the critical services it supports. FM Smt. @nsitharaman said that over the years, India has ensured resilient #EconomicGrowth by not only investing in hard infrastructure, but also in building institutional capacity through creating National-and State-level Disaster Management Agencies. She said that during Cyclone Amphan in 2020, India evacuated over 2.4 million people in a coordinated manner, minimising loss of life. Reassuring India's commitment in sharing best practices during this resilience-building journey, the Union Finance Minister extended assistance to Global South towards shared challenges and said that under #G20India Presidency a Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group was created to increase commitment to disaster and climate-resilient infrastructure and to prioritize stronger national financial frameworks for disaster risk reduction. FM Smt. @nsitharaman said that India is looking forward to partnering with Africa and other developing countries to strengthen their #resilience of #infrastructure.
