This is one of the best articles synthesizing a lot of the recent AI Econ research on automation and augmentation, what will determine where we are most likely to see labor market displacement in the near term. If you’re interested in Econ of AI, read it.

Who actually benefits when we increase immigration? Well, almost everyone. But one concrete example: for a 25% increase in immigration, the 5,000 (mostly elderly) Americans they save the lives of each year. Cool @nberpubs paper by @DavidCGrabowski, Gruber, & @McGarryBE.

We’ve lost over 10,000 STEM PhDs from the federal workforce in a single year. 10,000. Never thought the U.S. would ever allow this type of brain drain to occur - but here we are.

I don't know how to ask for a moment of silence amid the madness that is X. But please take a moment to reflect on the heroism of William Foege. Foege, who died Saturday at 89, was a key architect of the eradication of smallpox using the vaccine. This is one of humanity's great victories over a terrible disease and a triumph of science. If you haven't, go order or download his book, "House on Fire," which chronicles that epic fight. He was head of the CDC from 1977 to 1983. He was a towering, six-foot-seven reminder that rationality can win against scourges that have beset mankind for all of history.

Women today are told to "lean in," optimize harder, and treat exhaustion like a personal defect instead of the structural crisis it actually is. My friend Corinne Low (@femonomics) drags the receipts to the table in her fantastic new book, "Having It All." amazon.com/Having-All-Tel… She brings together decades of data on happiness, time use, earnings, fertility, and relationships that highlight a "rigged game"—and no amount of 5 a.m. miracles or productivity hacks is going to un-rig it. But this isn't another diagnosis-and-doom book. Corinne hands you the escape map. What if you treated marriage like the most important business deal of your life? Started valuing your unpaid hours in cold, hard dollars? Quietly stopped chasing everyone else's definition of "having it all"? The numbers reveal a third path—usually ignored, often mocked—that consistently produces the happiest women, the strongest partnerships, and (surprise) the most financial security over a lifetime. With razor-sharp wit and zero guilt trips, Corinne dismantles the motherhood penalty, the pay gap, the invisible labor trap, and the lie that you can out-hustle a broken system. This is an economist's playbook for reclaiming your time, your energy, and your joy—on your own terms. If you're tired of failing at a game you never agreed to play, this book is your permission slip and your new rulebook. BONUS BOOK GIVEAWAY: Type "giveaway" in the comments and Corinne will send one signed book to the winner!
