Why all the time these guys advocate for road transports? Why not ask southern railways? Why railways are not upgraded to match the migration and transportation needs? They quick to reply that railways has restriction due to tracks. While late night long haul trains, from north, can cross TN junctions, Southern railways choose to skip intra state trains. Union govt is trying to invest more on national highways as it is beneficial to private players. In the last 12 years of Modi rule, thry choose to reduce budget allocation to TN railway system. Instead they investing heavy in north india, esp hindi belt. Every time BJP came to power they look for rapid expansion of road services instead of railways. Becos they can collect more money from private players and tolls. Look at the increase of tolls in TN during BJP regime. Lallu prasad yadav, as a railway minister understood importance of railways and could able to bring the department to most profitable department without increasing passenger price. He knew, Safest & fastest public transport system is Railways and affordable to poor. How many trains were added during Modi regime in TN? The urbanisation of TN is huge and fast. Roughly 50% lives in urban centers. One train from Chennai to Madurai can carry passenger load equal ~30 omni buses. If they could expand a system where more trains can ply to south with adequate unreserved seats, can reduce the burden. While we expect State administration to organise buses, we miss to challenge union govt. In the meantime, Modi govt quick to organise more trains from Hindi belt to Bengal. If they can organise interstate transportation, why not they do intra state transportation? BJP want more influx from Hindi belt to Bengal to capture power, whereas urban centers of TN hates BJP and thus they are not interested to organise railways.
