13/13: An opposing channel is inequality aversion. As perceived relative income increases, individuals that dislike being better off than others contribute to the public good to reduce the gap. The two channels can balance each other out.

12/13: Respondents use a simple heuristic to form beliefs about their benefits from the public good. The public good is seen as redistributive, so perceived marginal benefits decrease as perceived relative income increases.
