In my experience, most famous structural conjectures in pure mathematics that get resolved by humans, have tended to be settled in the affirmative (e.g: “Proposed Rule X is true w/o exception.”).
AI seems to tend to find exceptions.

That may well be the reason. Changing pricing is obviously much easier than integrating a new serving stack into an actual product. My frustration is that Sam explicitly said 750 token/sec was coming to 5.6 Sol in July. With July almost over, I expected at least an update by now...

Sorry, but as a ChatGPT and Codex Pro user, I couldn't care less about an API price cut. Most users won't see any direct benefit from this. Many of us were waiting to see 5.6 Sol running on Cerebras at 750 tokens per second, or at least a meaningful speed upgrade in ChatGPT and Codex. Instead, today's announcement brings nothing new to either product.

Clear need for an urgent international meeting on the future of the field, with a focus on recent grads and postgrads who have not had the good fortune of building their careers in the pre-LLM age.
Agree that mathematicians will have to be better explainers. May be resistance.

I am not against the use of AI in mathematics; I am against people using it in ways that are misleading and/or damage mathematics.

You’ve got Arsenal fans, rightly so getting gassed about signing Vini. Whether it happens or not doesn’t matter (probably agent talk for a better deal). However, this is why we enjoy football man, for that hope, excitement and enthusiasm.

There are no goals of the mathematical community as a whole. Mathematics and mathematicians are free. Nobody is entitled to speak for "the goals of mathematical community".
I see mainly wishes of those in power to impose their goals to try to keep their power.
These are rough times for those whose mathematics is just a bag of tricks. The "bag of tricks mathematics" works perfect for IMO problems, it works also for solving not very deep problems and being prolific publishing.
The "bag of tricks mathematicians" are OVER. The AI has made them obsolete. They seem desperate. They need to adjust the global goals for all so that they do not become irrelevant.

I'm not sure whether Karpathy has kids, and not sure whether he actually thought through this. But just imagining my (almost teenager) kids spending 80% of their time doing maths/physics/CS at school scares the crap out of me. Terrible terrible idea!

@ElliotGlazer I also don't want to name names, but I know of examples where there are significant gaps in accepted proofs. So much so that the filling of each gap deserves a publication. But unless the final result is wrong, reviewers often reject a paper filling a gap for lack of originality.
