Driving the Cybertruck for the first time might actually make me cry

I thought AI would lead to more slop. I've actually found it's leading to the best code I've written. Here's why: I can fix anti-patterns quickly. I can ask it to follow coding standards. I can ask for big, time-consuming refactors. And the code feels more consistent, because it's mostly written by AI, not a bunch of separate personalities.

12.7 million battery electric vehicles were sold globally in 2025. In 2010, the number was barely 10,000. In China, 1 in 2 new cars sold last year was electric. The transition is happening faster than almost anyone predicted.

For the first time ever, heat pumps outsold gas boilers in Germany in 2025. 48% of all new heating systems installed last year were heat pumps. Gas fell to just 39%. A decade ago, heat pumps had a 7% market share. The transformation has been remarkable.

If you open a Chinese app for the first time, you’ll probably think it’s badly designed. Too many icons and features. Everything crammed onto one screen. If you grew up on Western apps, your instinct is immediate: this is cluttered. But it works. In the U.S., we’ve been trained to associate good UX with minimalism. In China, density often signals value. Open WeChat or Alipay, and it feels overwhelming at first. Information-heavy, feature-packed. But to local users, that density means capability. It says: everything you might need is already here in front of you. If you enter a new market assuming your design taste equals good UX, you’ll misread the signal. Good design is contextual.
