Some news- today will be my last day with the Winston-Salem Journal. I've enjoyed my time at the paper and appreciate the opportunities I've had to tell the stories of the city. I don't know for sure what's next, but for now indulge me a thread of some of my favorite frames.

@NinthStreetWatc There’s a policy in Durham about only spending money if the neighborhood score is lower than a certain level. My friend is on the parks committee. I don’t know the exact policy but it blew my mind when I heard about it. It’s why they’re having to raise private money for Duke park

This is progress. But I wonder why nobody talks about the city’s willful neglect of this entire neighborhood for at least a decade. It’s like - they have expensive houses there so f-them and their infrastructure. That’s not just my feeling.

To be clear how this work: Companies that make table saws that CAN cut your finger off are paying Marie to stop a company from selling a table saw that CAN'T cut your finger off, and they call this "the free market."

A new rule mandating finger-detection technology in table saws could raise costs by hundreds of dollars and result in a government-mandated monopoly. I introduced a bipartisan bill to protect consumer choice and block this mandate until the patents for this tech are made public.
