Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools announces 12/22 special meeting at noon "to consider action regarding the 2026-27 academic calendar." Earlier this week, the board voted to start next school year August 24 to comply with state law. The current school year began August 13.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School Board votes to change next year's school calendar to once again comply with state law. Next school year will run August 24, 2026-June 4, 2027. This school year began August 13, 2025 and ends May 22, 2026.

Even when @wsfcs new Superintendent expresses his preference, the BOE still votes to go back to a traditional calendar for 26-27?!?! Starting late Aug and ending after Memorial Day! 😡

@VinceBoley @DTedifies Direct instruction makes a world of difference with student growth. I wholeheartedly believe that! Kudos to your kiddos!

@DTedifies Dude! We had our diagnostic test today too and the growth was enormous! This is my first year truly implementing direct instruction and the science of reading with fidelity.

My 8th grade students are taking their NWEA Map Reading Test. So much growth happening! Deliberate practice is so important, but it’s supplemented with whole books. Kids need quality literature and exposure to Tier 2 vocabulary comes through explicitly teaching words from it.

My prayer today, and every day, is that I exemplify what a “good human” is to my students. I hope that they leave my classroom, daily, knowing that I love and care for them. I am #blessed to live out my dream as their teacher every single day!

My heart breaks! Someone’s kid died today in a public school. A place where students should feel safe and secure. Something must change!
