I'm late to this story about Weston Lions Arena - & I'm not disparaging the content of the story. The facts are correct, the quotes are almost certainly accurate, BUT.. I've got several sources that are simply not buying the fact that this is something Councillor Nunziata is spearheading to make sure the ice rink is getting saved. This is the community, MLSE, and Doug Ford & the provincial government telling Nunziata - we have a plan, & this is how it's going to go. It's so interesting that Nunziata went on the record Friday w/ a Star reporter. Do you think the reporter called Nunziata? I don't. I could be wrong - quite sure I'm not. This is Nunziata, in an election year, recognizing what's about to become public knowledge (that the ice pad at Weston Lions WILL stay) & to take credit for it - when for months on end - she's said that's not a feasible endgame, & that the City of Toronto can't afford to maintain it. Now, Nunziata would have you believe SHE'S the power behind a 180 degree shift to keep the ice. NOT the public outcry, not Eric Lindros, not Kevin Weekes, not MLSE, & not Doug Ford. It's not just in the story, it's the entire framing OF the story. This wasn't her idea. Like, no chance. Making it look like she's brought all these stakeholders together - no one in that Ward, or that Weston Lions community is believing that. thestar.com/news/gta/how-d…

Canada's longest dividend growth streak continues. Last week Canadian Utilities $CU.to hiked its quarterly dividend by 1% to $0.4623 per share. That marks the 54th consecutive year of dividend increases. A great record, but a 1% increase is pretty sad.

The comments and quote tweets about this are telling. Without reading, people with TDS are showing their TDS by saying I'm carrying water for Trump. No, Canadians need to deal in reality and too many aren't because their hatred for Trump blinds them. Read the piece. Then comment.
Brian Lilley@brianlilley

We need to be dealing in reality. Instead too many Canadians, driven by Trump Derangement Syndrome, are believing things that just aren't true. brianlilley.com/p/trump-derang…

A cop in a highly charged situation involving a deadly weapon (which a car is) does not have the luxury of knowing that she is trying to avoid him. If she is failing to comply with orders while driving in your general direction, you will naturally be in fear for your life and act accordingly even if that fear turns out later to be baseless. That is, in fact, what cops are trained to do.

People who encourage non-compliance with law enforcement orders are putting lives at risk. If I were an armed officer and a person ignored my lawful orders and began driving in my general direction I wouldn't hesitate to shoot them. Sitting in your living room, you can claim that she was trying to drive away. An officer has neither the luxury of time, nor the luxury of doubt. He wants to go home to his kids and if you confront him, ignore his orders and then start driving at him, you will get shot. If you want to change the law, get involved in politics, don't confront law enforcement, don't ignore their orders and you'll be just fine.

TIMELINE OF A SCANDAL Chrystia Freeland was offered the Ukraine job on Dec. 22. She told Mark Carney on Dec. 24. They kept it a secret. On Dec. 27, Carney and Freeland gave another $2.5 billion to Ukraine without revealing the conflict. Zelenskyy broke the news yesterday.

Standing up for what’s right isn’t always popular. I learned that the hard way. During the pandemic, I made a decision that changed everything. I spoke out publicly about the impact school closures were having on children’s mental health—even knowing it was unpopular. What followed was intense: public criticism, online harassment, and threats against my family. It was the darkest and most isolating time of my life. But I knew I was acting in alignment with my values—and I wasn’t alone. A small but courageous community stood with me, and that gave me the strength to keep going. Today, I’m working with policymakers to reshape the future of Canadian healthcare. My focus: shifting from a system that reacts with prescriptions to one that prevents illness before it starts. That shift is finally gaining momentum. Have you ever faced a moment where standing up for what mattered came at a cost? I’d love to hear what helped you stay grounded. Does this message resonate with you? Share it 👉🏾♻️

US housing market activity is rapidly slowing down: In July, the typical home sat on the market for 43 days, the slowest July pace in 10 years. By comparison, it was just 16 days in July 2021. Additionally, pending home sales fell -1.1% MoM, to their lowest since November 2023. Despite this, prices are still rising, with the median home sales price up +1.4% YoY, to a record July high of $443,867. Many homeowners are choosing to rent or delay selling rather than accept lower offers, further limiting supply. The housing market is stalling.

Something is seriously wrong here: For the first time in history, a NEW home in the US costs $33,500 LESS than an EXISTING home, per Reventure. Not even June 2005 saw such a large gap, right before the 2008 Financial Crisis. What is happening? Let us explain. (a thread)
