The back of the envelope number is much worse than that actually. Based on their own annual ridership numbers, there’s only 12,000 - 14,000 regular riders. If you add the annual capital budget into the cost and subtract out the fares (only 4% of their budget), it’s more than $30,000 per rider in 2026

Here's the number you cannot get from IndyGo; How much money is spent per passenger per mile per year? It's not a complicated figure at all until you ask them for it What is the grand total from all funding sources...fares, federal state & local taxes, minus salaries, & maintenance of facilities & vehicles, fuel costs. IE., the absolute bottom line cost? I had read somewhere that the COST was estimated to be $6,000.00 per passenger and wanted to verify this number, or what it actually is I went down the rabbit hole emailing IndyGo's accounting office and NEVER got the figure. They are absolute pros at double speak. I even went as far as contacting the then head of IndyGo on Twitter and was summarily blown off. The fact is that if this number is released I feel the public would be truly shocked, but good luck getting it because they make it impossible. And as a government funded entity, this should be investigated
