Eddie Howe on team-news ahead of Sunday: "Bruno suffered on his return from Brazil with illness, that has delayed his return. Doubt over this game and the Bournemouth game. Maybe he will be back for Arsenal. Fabian Schär suffered an infection in his foot so he is in hospital having a minor surgery on that so he will be out for about a month. Everyone else, I think we are good."

@FabrizioRomano They have a point. On the day of the day of the day, you can't get away with "attacking the pilot" 😂

🚨 OFFICIAL: Barcelona fill complaint to UEFA for referee and VAR decisions. ⚠️ FC Barcelona reports that, on the day of the day of the day, the Club's legal services have presented a formal complaint against UEFA in relation to the matches that occurred in the match of the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League against Athletic Madrid. The club considers that it will produce an arbitration action contrary to current regulations, with a direct impact on the development of the encounter and its result. The claim focuses on a specific action. At the 54th minute of the match, once the game had resumed correctly, a rival player will attack the pilot with his hand inside the area without that being pointed out to the criminal correspondent. FC Barcelona understand that this decision, together with the non-intervention of the VAR, constituted an important error. As a consequence, the club has requested the opening of an investigation, access to arbitration communications and, if applicable, the official recognition of errors and the adoption of the relevant measures. In this matter, FC Barcelona considers that it is not the first time that, in recent editions of the UEFA Champions League, incomprehensible refereeing decisions have harmed the equipment, generating a clear comparative group and preventing them from competing in equal conditions with other clubs.

@NUFC Along with Bruno possibly the most important signing in our history. Wish him nothing but the best and hope at some point we see him on the coaching staff.

Thank you, Tripps 🖤🤍 After four and a half years of incredible service to Newcastle United, we can confirm that Kieran Trippier will leave the club this summer when his contract expires. Kieran arrived in January 2022 with the club in the relegation zone and played a crucial role as he went on to lift the club’s first domestic trophy in 70 years.

@NewcastleFansTV They need a clear plan/blueprint. Eg Brentford looked from the outside to be in turmoil in the summer but replaced their coach and best 2 players and have become stronger. Last summer we not only had no plan for losing Isak but were rudderless without CEO etc. Needs sorting

Are the ownership and executives at Newcastle United at a point now where a complete reset and reassessment of the goals, aspirations timelines, priority etc. This year will mark 5 years since we became free of MA but is this Summer arguably the most important one yet? What's everyone's thoughts the next steps for our owners and executives to move into that next level regularly?

@nufcupdates9 Agree with this. The intense press should be something we use in 10-15 minute spells but our general play needs to evolve. The current system has been figured out by most teams now so we look laboured in attack and vulnerable at the back

Whether you’re Howe in, Howe out, or somewhere in between, everyone can see that this system has produced inconsistent results for a while and needs to change. Whether that’s Eddie making those changes and evolving with a transfer window etc, or someone else. That’s not excusing the players one bit who I thought were more to blame yesterday and were weak throughout after the start we made. But speaking more about the bigger picture of the system it’s great in games when we’re the underdog, where we can let teams have the ball and press them. This produces a lot of great moments when we win, and at home anyway most the defeats are narrow. Against shite teams like Burnley, Leicester, Southampton and Ipswich we can’t be underdogs but won’t get punished as our quality will normally show. It’s against mid table sides like Brentford, Brighton, Everton, Bournemouth and Sunderland when it’s on us to break decent sides down and this system doesn’t allow for it. (Yes I know we’re a mid table side this season but this has went on for the last few years when we haven’t been). There’s a lot of debate about runners vs footballers. Ultimately the best sides like City and Arsenal have loads of players who can do both and that’s what you’d ideally have, but in games you need to break sides down we need more technical players to open doors. And need the system to utilise the ones we do have too. Another absolutely massive summer coming up where if Eddie is here, many fans want to see signs of evolution. #nufc

@Magpie24_7 Hes absolutely spot on. We also need to get the youth system to an absolute top level and use it. Until our revenue is close to the big 6 we have to sell the odd big player and hope to successfully replace, be clever in the market

Simon Jordan has staunchly defended Eddie Howe’s position at Newcastle United, asserting that even a high-profile manager like Luis Enrique could not surpass Eddie's current achievements!: "The challenge for them is: How do Newcastle United square this circle of having the idea of having the world's richest owners? Having this marvellous fanbase that are - not demanding success - but wanting it so much and obviously we saw that last year when they won the League Cup." Simon questioned whether our current league position is truly a failure, noting that we are largely sitting behind clubs we should realistically be competing with. He argued that finishing around sixth or seventh would constitute a job well done, despite the high expectations set by our previous Champions League qualification. "Other than that, where is the argument, what can Newcastle do? They've got to punch massively above their financial weight to break into the top six, so really and truly what we are talking with Newcastle being ninth in the Premier League, is if they go past Brentford and Everton and finish seventh or sixth, they've done their job. But they won't have done their job prima facie because they have been successful in getting into the Champions League." He highlighted the "commercial reality" that prevents Newcastle from matching the spending power of Europe’s elite, citing our inability to keep top talent away from "legacy clubs like Liverpool." He suggested that the path forward for the PIF involves long-term infrastructure rather than just transfer spending. "They have got the moniker of having the world's richest owners, but they have got the backdrop...the commercial reality (is) they cannot go pound-for-pound with these boys who are spending £250m every transfer window. They can't keep their best players, because their best players are going to legacy clubs like Liverpool. So what do they do? The only thing they can do is do something that they should have done and what they should be doing now, which is build a new stadium. Increase the capacity of the stadium, increase the revenues, get some more opportunities to be able to monetise themselves better." As we attempt to move past our European 'nightmare,' Eddie must quickly refocus the squad. We face Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby this Sunday, a match that now takes on even greater significance as we look to get back into Europe next season and get back 'on the saddle' after last night's painful second half. #NUFC #NUFCNews #Newcastle #EPL

Barcelona play an extremely high line. Pace up front and aggressive in the press is going to be key tonight. No Frenkie de Jong who pulled the strings at SJP in September. Newcastle absolutely can give themselves something to fight for at the Nou Camp. Keep the faith. #NUFC
