@mental_willness @VigilantFox Intent is used to determine the crime like if something was done premeditated or by accident. That is not the same thing as creating a whole other category of crime called “hate” crimes. That’s thought police.

Actor Seth Green thought Bill Maher would love to hear how Trump inspired him to read 1984. What happened next was something he didn’t expect. Instead of trashing Trump, Maher flipped the script and gave Green a blunt observation about “liberal dogma” that he had “never thought about in that way.” It all started when Green brought up “thought crime.” GREEN: “When was the last time you read 1984? I read it in 2016 when Trump was running… But the main thing was getting down to thought crime… where you thinking something is an arrestable offense.” MAHER: “But that’s a hate crime.” GREEN: “Well, this is it, right? We’re edging that territory.” MAHER: “We’re not edging. It’s been decades since we said we believe in this country that there is such a thing as a hate crime. Now, that’s basic liberal dogma. I consider myself a liberal, but I never agreed with that. A hate crime is a thought crime. It’s a thought crime, and I don’t think we should go down that slope. A crime is a crime. If you kill somebody, you should be punished for it. The law should not be involved in what is in your mind.” GREEN: “I hadn’t really thought about it that way, but that’s a fair point.”

Yeah, we get it. You believe in thought police. Sane people understand why allowing the “authorities” to punish you differently based on your thoughts is not something anyone should want. Not because people don’t think fucked up things but because the government can’t be trusted to do judge what someone is thinking and then be allowed to punish you more.

@VigilantFox Bill Maher is so stupid. Hate crimes are typically performed with the goal of inspiring fear/terror in an entire population of people which is why they are punished differently than ordinary crimes. It has nothing to do with thought policing, it has to do with intent.

The whole idea of "incompetent to stand trial" is fucking nonsense. If you're too "incompetent" to understand that you shouldn't butcher an innocent woman on the train, you should die. Period. Arrest, convict, execute. You are not fit to be a part of human society. How many more innocent people must we sacrifice for the sake of coddling and babying the absolute scum of the Earth? Our ancestors had it right. They would have had this guy hanging from the gallows an hour after conviction. The old system of justice was light years better than this insane bullshit we're dealing with now.
