Meeting with poultry farmers face-to-face really gave me the proper perspective on the importance of this industry. Thanks to Rep David Hardin for inviting me to Westville where we listened to their concerns. I’ve met with poultry farmers three times in Adair County. These are hardworking Oklahomans caught in the crossfire of a political battle that should’ve been resolved years ago. The poultry industry generated $1.3 Billion in cash receipts last year. That is 2.5% of Oklahoma’s gross domestic product — more than 25 thousand jobs! With the right leadership, we can have both clean water and a thriving poultry industry. The Cattlemen’s Association knows the score. I applaud them for rejecting a candidate who shows open disdain for Oklahoma’s farmers and ranchers. Oklahoma needs a conservative Governor who can navigate the balance between environment and industry.

Oklahomans work hard for their homes, but every year we’re forced to pay rent to the government just to keep them. That’s wrong. County budgets have gone up an average of 6% a year, while personal income will only rise about 15% over the next decade. A recent study shows property taxes could jump 90% in that same time. That is not sustainable. Counties like Tulsa are sitting on record surpluses. Tulsa County Community College is offering free tuition to areas outside the county. They have more money than they know what to do with. It’s time to get serious about cutting waste and reducing property taxes. I’m building a plan to phase them out completely, starting with veterans and low-income seniors. As long as we keep paying property taxes, we never truly own our homes. We are renting from the government. That has to end. I’ve spent my life solving complex financial problems. This one can be solved too. With the right leadership, Oklahoma can be the first state in America to end property taxes for good.
