I agree that it’s a word used inappropriately far too often. But the left made that kind of thing’ normal. So I think it’s fair to use if that’s what they want. Problem is, I think it’s quite clear that if they ARE going to use words like that, they should make sure their behaviour doesn’t fit the label. Sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander. And thank you for your comment and the respectful way you have also spoken. We may disagree, but we should be able to talk like adults. I think it’s perfectly appropriate to use that word to describe people who are authoritarian, suppress freedom of expression, violently suppress opposition, prosecute thought crimes, remove rights and violently prioritise specific races. What’s not fascist about that? It might not match the proscribed academic definition of the historical ideology of fascism, but as Lisa Nandy put it “if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck….”
