@40South @FelicityBuche @thealepalombo 🤣 You said it takes 8 weeks to get a GP appointment in New Zealand, that is quite obviously false for Wellington and Auckland. I feel for the regions if that is the case. That does suck and needs to be addressed for sure.

@AndyBurt2012 @FelicityBuche @thealepalombo It isn't a question of being OK, upset, or not. But I see what you're trying to do there Its just fascinating how two city folk who are so wrapped up in themselves think because they can get a Dr's appointment tomorrow, the rest of the country can also When clearly, they can't

Everyone talks about Argentina and Uruguay as the WW3 hedge. I'd pick New Zealand. Not even a close call. It's structurally harder to break than anywhere else on that list: - Genuinely isolated. A remote island at the edge of the world, not a contested continent - AAA institutions, rule of law, no capital controls - English-speaking, first-world healthcare and schools The vehicle is the Active Investor Plus visa: - ~US$2.9M (NZ$5M) into NZ businesses and funds, locked 3 years - 21 days on the ground, total, over those 3 years - At the end: PR that never expires, zero presence required: you can leave for a decade, walk back in whenever - Spouse and kids are included automatically for PR - Critically, any child born there to a PR holder is a citizen by birth You're buying an unconditional right of return to a stable, remote, English-speaking democracy, for your entire family, forever. Three years of locked capital in. Three weeks on the ground. Caribbean passports are a different story. The southern cone is great, true...until it isn't. Serious paths always outlast clever shortcuts. Also, New Zealand looks like this.

This guy was so good he was playing professional rugby four years before anyone else in the world.
Dr Shawn Baker 🥩@SBakerMD

1991, I had just dropped out of medical school to go play semi-professional rugby in New Zealand. I was 22 years old, working out at a place called Sgt Rock’s gym in Galveston Texas, while going to medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch. The owner of the gym, a guy named Paul McCartney, not the Beatle, was a chiropractor who was the captain of the local rugby team, which was coincidentally affiliated with the medical school. Now at the time I was 6’5” about 240lbs, I could squat over 500 lbs and deadlift over 600, was lean, fast and could jump out of the gym. He somewhat jokingly, but was also being serious, told me that if I wanted to continue to train at his gym then I needed to come play rugby for his team. I thought about it for a few days and thought, what the heck, it could be fun. I went out to my first practice and learned about scrums, rucks, knock ons and how to tackle people. A few other medical school students were there as well as a mixture of a bunch of locals include the Lopez brothers, Steve, John and Chris “AKA Chowder Head”. I picked things up reasonably well and the first match they stuck me out on the wing. Usually, that position was for smaller fast guys and the guy playing opposite of me on the other team was like 90lbs lighter than me. The wing runs around a fair bit but doesn’t often get the ball very often. My first game was fairly uneventful as I recall. Eventually as I got a bit more familiar with the game I was moved into what known as “the pack”. Where I played what is called second row or lock and eventually some time at number 8, which honestly is one of the best positions in the game in my opinion. Anyway, I start my journey with the local club team and by the end of the season I get selected to be on the All Texas team, and shortly after that the all Western US team. I can remember becoming obsessed with rugby to the point that medical school became a thing I had to do between practice and matches. About halfway through my second year of medical school one of our professors, who happened to be from New Zealand starting talking to me about bringing me to New Zealand to play for one of their teams. The team was called Hautapu RFC and it was a team in the premiere division of a region known as the Waikato. They apparently every year recruited a foreigner to help fill out their side, often South Africans and sometimes Americans. They said they would fly me out, house me, feed me and pay me a small salary. Honestly the decision for me was pretty simple. Get payed to go play a sport that was a blast or toil away in medical school. Needless to say, I chose the more fun option and a few weeks later I was on my way to New Zealand. The medical professors thought I was nuts and asks me to reconsider, my parents

@40South @FelicityBuche @thealepalombo Like Felicity, I could also get a GP appointment tomorrow and have never had an issue. From Wellington so can’t speak for the regions. But between Wellington and Auckland you are talking about 2 million people who don’t have an issue with this massive problem you raise.

@AndyBurt2012 In first-class rugby in NZ, the first 5 point try was scored by Anetelea Aiolupo for Manu Samoa v @Waikato. Andrew Strawbridge was the first Kiwi. Law officially changed on 6/6/92, but this match was given special dispensation as the tour started on the 1st of June.

Hey @nzrugbydatabase, do you know who was the first All Black to score a 5 point try in a Test when the points were changed from 4 to 5 in 1992?

Pleased to announce I’ve got another book due out in July. It’s my greatest All Black team of all time, which I’m sure everyone will agree with and not send me messages with who they would’ve picked! I’m sure your Dads would love one for Father’s Day. And Christmas. And Birthdays

@SimonBorchardt Yes. She’s currently the most recognisable name in global rugby. No argument there. She’s transcended from rugby player to global celebrity. Cover of swimsuit illustrated, finalist on Dancing With the Stars, over 8 million social media followers. No male rugby player comes close.

I was hugely honoured and humbled to be invited by The Right Honourable KP Sharma Oli today to discuss the huge success of the inaugural Nepal Premier League, the importance of cricket to Nepal and how the sport is helping Nepal on the world stage in so many different ways.
