@lukegeraty So good! Did something similar @RiversideVC around thought that “water reminds you of baptism, and baptism reminds you that you belong to Christ”. We invited baptised people to receive a sign of the cross with water in their foreheads. So powerful.

Today was a great day. In addition to people getting baptized at both of our morning services, we also had a number of people make baptismal renewals where they reaffirmed their commitment to Jesus. Over the past couple decades of pastoral ministry, I’ve had a lot of conversations with people who were considering being baptized for the second time. Yet if their initial baptism was in response to genuine faith in Christ, I think Paul’s words in Ephesians 4:5-6 should guide us to REMEMBER our baptism and how we were joined with Christ’s death, burial, & resurrection (cf. Rom. 6:1-4). So what should people do when they have a renewed sense of commitment and want to honor their baptism? Enter Baptismal Renewal! We pulled our liturgy from the Book of Common Prayer and people came forward to make this profession and it was AWESOME. Pastors… if you are challenged by the people who are wondering if they should get rebaptized and after a conversation or two you both discern that their initial baptism was legit (yes, I’m Credo-Baptist with dual-baptism ecclesiology), Baptismal Renewal is your way forward. Let’s go!!
