My latest for @BloombergNEF: The Next Half-Trillion-Dollar Market - Electrification of Heat. Following on the heels of renewables and electric vehicles, it's heat pumps and industrial heating where the really big numbers are going to be invested next. bloom.bg/3nc9jl9

I can't think of a combination that gives better household energy running costs than a heat pump and solar PV.

A depressing but important read on the combination of the political/fossil fuel industry revolving door and all party parliamentary groups being funded by fossil fuel interests - to promote hydrogen. Thanks to @openDemocracy for asking me to comment. opendemocracy.net/en/blue-hydrog…

@heatpolicyrich ‘ultimately’ is quite close to reality. There are many years of work needed to produce truly green hydrogen at a scale and distributed at a price anybody might want to pay for a heating fuel and many better more more urgent uses for hydrogen.

Insulating homes pays back 4x quicker in the UK from October 2022 compared to 1 year ago. This is because gas prices are skyrocketing and gas is used for heating in ~85% of UK homes. 🧵

@borpin A more accurate name for MVHR would be Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Exchange (MVHE). Why? Because a heat exchanger helps to keep heat in during the winter, and the coolth in during a heatwave. …for MVHE to be successful in a heatwave you need to start with a cool house.

The Cardington mooring mast design was a very usefull bit of kit. It meant you could moor a 777ft long airship with minimal ground staff. In fact i think the least amount of crew used to moor a ship was as low as 12 once.

Two things I want to shoot into the 🌞 today (apart from the usual): 1. Ppl defending their indefensible carbon-intensive lifestyles as "convenient" or "inevitable" or "comfortable." It's like listening to alcoholics or heroin addicts, in many ways. Listen up. Perhaps ... 1/

Have been air conditioning the garden. Would it be wrong to angle it so I can sunbathe in the garden in front of it and not over heat?
