@allenwalton This is super-common. People often think how they feel before a session determines training potential, and it's usually a horrible leading indicator.

Terrible sleep (~4h), really didn’t want to lift, ended up having a great workout and don’t feel like a zombie anymore.

@AndyFossett @jessethanley I can agree with this, I just think work is 'computer behavior' My main gripe is you shouldn't be telling AI to do stuff for you when you're at the gym, grocery shopping, or at your kids soccer game! Live in the moment!

@thisisjonc When I was a kid, I unplugged about half of my father's home recording studio and "rewired" it trying to record some animal noises 🤣 he was not amused.

@jessethanley @allenwalton obv, if you're a solo operator or doing freelance, that's maybe a different situation. And I do prefer writing on a laptop, given the option. But I can also do 95% of my work with only tools I carry in my pocket every day, and that's pretty cool.

I jest but in all seriousness a lot of what I work on is dedicated on making the human exp. better and then creating simpler primitives so that external tools can interact with those objects easier. Most of what we've built hasn't been new either it's just either improving the API to offer more functionality w/ what already exists or improving our dev SDKs. The CLI and MCP is basically just a few prompts wrapped around our Node SDK/API. And all the improvements we make to the API normal devs day to day benefit from too. So the AI-specific work helps all users. Then there is the in-app AI features, like the query builder and workflow chat, which has lead to people rage quitting a lot less (/sending me aggressive messages) and reduced churn a bit. Working on these also lead me to improve both those components a lot when you're in manual mode. Trying to find a balance where everyone wins.

I try to avoid being a doomer, but I do feel immense pressure to have my product conform to the new way of working in a way I haven’t felt before. Organic traffic is no longer a distribution strategy, customers don’t want to login anymore, you need to have a CLI/MCP or customers will go elsewhere, our AI features need to be updated weekly and one-shot the most random requests… Your company is at risk if you don’t move fast enough. I’m embracing it but I understand why people are anxious. It’s never ending.

@thisisjonc in fairness, whatsapp is actually just a much better app than iMessage but I've never liked the UI of a single google product, ever

One of the most frustrating parts of training: the plateau You're doing the reps. You're putting in the time. But something's still missing. Progress falls off and cliff, and no amount of additional effort moves the needle anymore. Here's why training plateaus happen.

I hit the transcribe key with WisprFlow, forgot what I was going to say and let it go. This text appeared. Slightly unsettling.
