We have successfully completed and opened the new Household Waste Recycling Centre for Kirklees Council and SUEZ. 🙌♻️ Our TRU West Alliance team constructed the new facility to allow SUEZ to continue operating the recycling centre whilst new railway lines are built. The existing site had to be relocated to enable the construction of a new retaining wall, which will facilitate the development of new fast lines and allow for increased line speeds through this section of the route. 🚆 Recently, colleagues from both Kirklees and TRU, along with local councillors, visited the site and had a tour around the new facility. This is another example of collaboration between TRU and Kirklees Council, and how partnerships can deliver meaningful outcomes for both our infrastructure and our communities. 🤝

Team TRU has now wrapped-up a huge month of upgrades between Leeds and York 🙌 Engineering work began on Christmas Day and spanned a 32-day period, which saw 45 engineering trains, 879 rail wagons, three large cranes and three tamping trains deployed. These helped us: - Install 70 new signals and a brand new power supply, for more reliable services 🚦 - Renew 3km of track, for faster, smoother journeys 🛤️ - Upgrade 11 switches and crossings, that allow trains to change from one line to another 🔀 - Install overhead line equipment foundations, for electrified, greener services ⚡ There was also a particular focus on Church Fenton during this period, with tracks through the area remodelled and platforms 3 and 4 at the station re-aligned, meaning the overall line speed through this section of the route will increase in the future, reducing journey times. The installation of a new passing loop will also enable direct services to overtake stopping ones, increasing capacity to allow more trains to run. Here's how we completed these major upgrades 🎥👇

Today's announcement of funding for Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) reinforces the importance of continued investment in rail infrastructure in the North of England. As plans for NPR move forward, the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is delivering the infrastructure needed to enable NPR's ambitions and improve east-west rail connectivity. TRU is on time and on budget, upgrading the existing Transpennine main line for 70 miles between Manchester and York to provide an electric network and increased capacity that future NPR services will rely on.
