The closest comparison I can think of is the Hartford Whalers leaving to become the Hurricanes in 1997. Obviously a much smaller city, but can't think of another city that lost it's only major franchise.

Breakout cities with only 1 major league franchise (with roots of 50+ years), and dealing with a city-owned building. And recent examples, not 25years ago. Agree the Oregon footing the bill isn't ideal. The alternative, which we will lay out in future stories, seems far worse.

@OSAASports has quiety changed the name of the new 5A Northwest Athletic and Activities Conference to the Greater Metro Conference, a good move first championed by @ByBrianRathbone. Now, can we see football stop using 5A-SD4 and go back to the Mid-Willamette Conference?

Also, it's always bothered me that the terms "league" and "conference" are both used for the same level of groupings. You've got the PIL, TRL, Metro League, but then also the CVC, MHC, and Pacific Conferences?
