This reminds me when I got into an argument with a Blazer fan several years ago who said that GT Jr. was going to be a top 4 shooting guard in the NBA in a few years and I said "I think he'll be Vinnie Johnson" and got clowned and blocked for it.

@KeviKev88 I think the biggest thing driving transfers (at least in Oregon) for hoops right now are kids (or parents) trying to get access to tournaments like LSI or Section 7. Everyone looking for exposure.

@kerryeggers If you don't have a problem with coaches making $10M, you shouldn't have a problem with players. If the money does not go to players, it will just go to coaches. We are seeing fewer coaching buyouts and that is a good thing.

Nobody deserves $7 million for playing college athletics, which have become professional sports and priced out all but the most lucrative programs -- mostly SEC. You like what's happening with NIL and revenue-sharing?

But the basic principle is...your job isn't done when you pass the ball. Almost every single guy continues to move after the pass. You can see France relax a little when the ball is passed while Spain continues to move, creating more space.

I can totally picture every U12 coach in the country showing their team this tape and saying "see guys? Just like that!"
Then you get on the pitch and find out your kids can't control hard passes on the sideline under pressure and can't hit a 30 yard cross on a dime.

But every year I have to learn new players to get attached to only for them to leave six months later and start over again

@kerryeggers Nobody thinks players shouldn’t be compensated at some level, but all we’re doing is charging more to us as consumers and running our universities into more debt. At some point it becomes unsustainable and we might lose college sports entirely.

No argument that coaches and adminstrators are making too much, but the players were getting more than just a "free" education, which by the way can be worth as much as a half-million dollars over five years. There's also a monthly stipend, year-round training table, health and tutorial benefits and programs to help get them into the business world after college. They were already getting a piece of the pie. Now it is one big money grab. Worst thing that's happened to college sports in my lifetime.

@kerryeggers Because for years absolutely everyone profited handsomely from CFB except they players. Coaches, universities, TV networks, tailgate lots, local hotels and bars while players were told to accept a “free” education. They’re getting a piece of the pie and it’s long overdue.

@trigonis30 @DraftExpress Google tells me there's only like 34 EYBL teams though. That's like 400 kids (assuming 12 man rosters) a year. You take the 168 and spread it over 4 years or so, and you're talking about like a kid on every team. Seems like there's some value there for D2 coaches.

Some data (I was curious): 168 of the 4,407 players on D2 rosters this season (3.8%) played 17U EYBL. Another 70 played 15U or 16U. But of those 238, only 16 played EYBL as recently as 2024, and zero in 2025. EYBL talent does trickle down to D2, just rarely directly.

Most mind-boggling thing I saw in Vegas this past week was seeing a SoCal NCAA D2 assistant evaluating & recruiting at the Nike EYBL. ????? Not saying there wasn't D2 talent there BUT what EYBL players are thinking D2 prior to their HS senior seasons?

5’7” Class of 2027 guard Payton Starwalt of Oregon Top Prospects (OTP) has been one of the biggest stories of the Lady P32.
After another 26-point performance, Starwalt remains the event’s leading scorer, averaging 20.2 points per game over the weekend while showcasing the elite shot-making, movement, and scoring versatility that have earned her dozens of Division I offers.
We caught up with Payton after the game to discuss what’s fueled her consistent scoring throughout the weekend, how her team’s chemistry creates opportunities beyond her own shot, and the parts of her game she hopes college coaches recognize that don’t always show up in the box score.
