@_NotA_Bot_ There’s no cheap easy solution but need a new bridge over river in south Philly near airport . Current Delair bridge is subject to crazy delays from freight trains /large ships passing on the river plus is nearly 9 miles the wrong direction . Line has low ridership due to this

@Andypry Just curious what you’d propose, because I haven’t thought much about extending mainline rail into NJ. A new route from the north just seems tough given the lack of ROW, so you kind of have to come from the south if you don’t want to explode construction costs.

I feel like a lot of the Atlantic City lines problems would be solved by buying some DMUs (or even dual modes that could accelerate faster on the NEC), and upgrading this arrow straight 25 miles to 110mph.

@_NotA_Bot_ Sure if you could connect south jersey to the airport it would be even more valuable . As it stands now there is just one rinky dink train bridge over the river into NJ and it’s about 9 miles in the wrong direction . Often there are delays crossing there too making it even slower

@_NotA_Bot_ The issue when leaving from Philly is it takes an insanely long time to get into NJ . The trip drags because you need to go all the way to Port Richmond before crossing over the river. a southern rail bridge would speed things up big time

Oddly enough, the best solution would probably be to ignore the expensive fixes in Philly, and concentrate on improving PATCO frequencies to feed trains at Lindenwold or an infill station at Haddonfield. PATCO is only slower here because there's an 11 minute transfer wait.

@coryfromphilly That’s simply because the people who are less well off financially are dealing with crime on their doorstep , the well off defund types are able to ignore many realities as they generally have much less direct contact with the impacts of crime

One of the reasons I am not convinced poverty causes crime is because the most tough on crime/law and order people I've met were poor people, and the defund the police types I've met are all well off. Just go talk to poor people in urban areas, they hate crime the most.

@bigseb31213 Additionally but on same wavelength, sprawl is a deterrent to gathering. It’s meaningfully only really possible on college campuses & a handful of cities. Which is partially why some fear both place, they’re “unpredictable”. Many love the placidity of society created via sprawl.

Genuinely think that the main thing stopping mass political violence in America is the phones. Everyone is too lazy to go outside, they can get their rage out via phone why start a pogrom if you can post about starting one

A group calling itself the passyunk avenue coalition is pushing for more Italian American representation along the corridor. Unfortunately for them, like Nińa, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria, that ship has sailed. Most of that community has cashed in and moved.
