A normal hemoglobin result doesn't rule out iron deficiency. Ferritin, the protein that stores iron in the body, can be depleted long before hemoglobin is affected. Yet ferritin isn't always included in routine blood panels. For clinicians, it's a distinction worth keeping in mind, particularly in patients presenting with unexplained fatigue, cognitive symptoms, or reduced exercise tolerance where standard results appear unremarkable. The ferritin-hemoglobin relationship is one of the more underappreciated areas of blood health. #BloodHealth #IronDeficiency #Ferritin #ClinicalEducation #PatientBloodManagement #Hematology

Your kidneys don't just filter water. They help make your blood. 🩸 They produce EPO, a hormone that signals your bone marrow to make red blood cells. When kidneys struggle, anemia follows. The kidney-blood connection is one worth knowing. 💧 #WorldKidneyDay #BloodHealth #AnemiaAwareness

4-5 doctor visits with her mum by her side. Still dismissed. Remi: "I can tell you when the pain hurts most. We need to be listened to." Dr. Burns: "Pain with bowel movements is a classic sign of endometriosis—but we often miss it in young women." Keep speaking up. #WorldAnemiaAwarenessDay

"My friends get cramps. That's it. So I thought that's just how my body works." It took Remi years to realize her symptoms weren't normal. Dr. Burns calls it "buck up culture"—the silence keeping women from getting help. Your "norm" might not be normal. #WorldAnemiaAwarenessDay

At 13, her periods seemed normal. By 15, life went on hold every month. Remi thought this was just how her body worked. Dr. Burns: "Nobody really talks about what normal is." If your period disrupts your life, you deserve answers. #WorldAnemiaAwarenessDay

Your body creates nearly 50% more blood to support your growing baby—and that requires more iron, folate, and other essential nutrients. Routine #bloodhealth screening during pregnancy helps healthcare providers support you proactively, ensuring both you and your baby get what you need to thrive.

Before surgery, anesthesiologists assess your #bloodhealth as part of preoperative care. Why? Because knowing your hemoglobin, iron levels, and overall blood status helps surgical teams provide safer care and better outcomes.
