I’ve updated my hypothetical numbers on the $ME airdrop and its potential effect on Bitcoin memecoins. These numbers are based on the evolution of the pre-market prices for $ME, the $HYPE airdrop, and the valuation of certain protocols (e.g., $VIRTUAL). A couple of days ago, when I was writing the initial post, $ME pre-market was trading at $2.77, giving the token a FDV of $2.77B. Today, it’s at $2.99, which gives an FDV of $2.99B. $HYPE, an L1, opened with a $4.5B valuation (despite being a new L1 whose adoption is yet to be truly tested post-TGE). Meanwhile, $VIRTUAL, a clever and interesting (pump-fun type) protocol for launching AI agents, is sitting at a $1.4B market cap. $ME, on the other hand, is the airdrop for users of the Magic Eden protocols. ME’s protocols’ market share, volume, and revenue serve as the most organic evidence that users find ME valuable. Among these, revenue is the best proxy, and ME has outperformed everyone significantly in this regard. Magic Eden is dominant in NFTs across two chains (Bitcoin and Solana) and has launched several more in recent months. Beyond NFTs, ME is the leading DEX on Bitcoin, has an excellent multi-chain wallet, and is set to launch its cross-chain trading app in a couple of weeks. Considering their impressive adoption, it’s impossible for me to envision $ME having an FDV of less than $5B. Given the initial low float, I’d even argue it could reach a $10B FDV. For context, Wormhole launched with a $16B FDV and is currently sitting at $3B FDV. Incidentally, a bridge is integrated with one of ME’s products—the wallet. Based on these potential FDVs, I’ve my bear, base, optimistic, and bullish scenarios. Here are the outcomes: Bear: $ME achieves a $2B FDV, and the community receives an airdrop worth $250M. Base: $ME achieves a $5B FDV, and the community receives an airdrop worth $625M. Optimistic: $ME achieves a $10B FDV, and the community receives an airdrop worth $1.25B. Bull: $ME achieves a $15B FDV, and the community receives an airdrop worth $1.87B. Here are the assumptions behind these scenarios for the effect on Bitcoin memecoins (same assumptions as my last post): 1.Bitcoin degens will receive 60% of the airdrop (based on protocol usage, volume, and revenue). 2.Bitcoin degens will sell 50% of the airdrop. 3.Bitcoin degens will reinvest 80% of the proceeds. 4.Bitcoin degens will allocate 50% of their new funds to Bitcoin memecoins. This means that for each scenario, the Runes ecosystem could see the following volumes in buying pressure: Bear: $30M Base: $75M Optimistic: $150M Bull: $225M Runes’ 24-hour trading volume is currently $2.81M. Even in the bear scenario, this would represent a 10x increase in buying pressure. The bear scenario buying pressure alone ($30M), prorated among Runes, could push $DOG, $BDC, and $PUPS above $2B market caps. The base, optimistic, and bullish scenarios could create massive immediate effects on Runes, potentially fast-tracking Tier-1 CEX listings (something that hasn’t happened yet). While this isn’t exactly how markets work, it provides perspective on the magnitude of the impact and how thin the order book is for Runes. This isn’t even taking into account the effect on current sell pressure. The airdrop will give liquid funds and air to sellers, that have been trying to rotate bags. The $ME airdrop is happening on December 10th. On that day, we’re sending Runes to Valhalla.
