@NASA @lookner Re-entry to earth’s atmosphere and splashdown are always a bit nerve-wracking. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 that the heat shield does its job and that the drogue chutes deploy.

They're halfway home. The Artemis II astronauts have hit the "halfway" mark between the Moon and the Earth. They will splash down in the Pacific Ocean around 8:07 pm ET on Friday, April 10 (0007 UTC on Saturday, April 11), off the coast of San Diego.

Gene Cernan’s last words on the moon "Bob, this is Gene, and I'm on the surface; and, as I take man's last step from the surface, back home for some time to come—but we believe not too long into the future—I'd like to just [say] what I believe history will record: that America's challenge of today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow. And, as we leave the Moon at Taurus–Littrow, we leave as we came and, God willing, as we shall return, with peace and hope for all mankind. Godspeed the crew of Apollo 17." There’s a reason Theme from A Summer Place still echoes in our hearts. Those sweeping strings aren’t just music—they’re a time machine to classic American summers, first loves, and golden afternoons. Fun fact: Percy Faith’s version spent 9 weeks at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1960 and even won Record of the Year at the 1961 Grammys—a rare honor for an instrumental! Every note is nostalgia you can hear, a melody that made the past unforgettable.

@WorkElizab You’re kidding right? I would highly recommend “Casablanca” (1942), “Johnny Belinda” (1948), “I Am A Fugitive From a Chain Gang” (1932), “Dodsworth” (1936) for starters. There are SO many others.

At the end of "The Honeymooners" Christmas episode in 1955, the cast surprised the audience by breaking character & wishing the viewers at home a Merry Christmas - a first in television history

@WorkElizab You’ve omitted an entire generation of great actors from the 1930s-1940s. James Cagney, Gregory Peck, James Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, Cary Grant, Spencer Tracy, Henry Fonda, Sidney Poitier, Paul Muni… shall I go on??

:One of the first three humans to orbit the Moon. Commander of the ill-fated Apollo 13, whose calm leadership turned a potential disaster into one of NASA’s greatest triumphs. Four missions. 715 hours in space. That was Jim Lovell — a true legend of the Apollo era.He passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 97. But before he left us, Lovell recorded a secret message that even the Artemis II crew knew nothing about.NASA held onto it quietly. Then, on the sixth day of the mission — as the crew drew close to the Moon — they played it.“Hello, Artemis II. This is Apollo astronaut Jim Lovell. Welcome to my old neighborhood.”In warm, steady tones, he recalled Christmas Eve 1968, when he, Frank Borman, and Bill Anders became the first humans to orbit the Moon on Apollo 8. He spoke of that breathtaking view that captivated a billion people back on Earth. He expressed how proud he was to hand the torch to this new generation. He urged them to soak it all in — the stark beauty of the lunar surface, the fragile blue marble of home hanging in the void. And then, with perfect symmetry, he closed the message exactly as Apollo 8 had ended 58 years earlier:“Godspeed… from all of us here on the good Earth.”He addressed each of them by name — Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen — bridging six decades of exploration in a single, heartfelt transmission.Lovell never saw Artemis II lift off. He never watched them depart Earth. But his voice was waiting for them when they reached the Moon he once pioneered.A quiet, powerful passing of the flame. NASA

Cath Read ‘Harbour Walk’ Social worker just rang. No one told me he’d fallen out of bed…..in the middle of the night …. He was in room on his own at the very end of the hospital. Of course, I’m incandescent with rage. Why no Honesty he went for a scan but seems ok

Earthset. The Artemis II crew captured this view of an Earthset on April 6, 2026, as they flew around the Moon. The image is reminiscent of the iconic Earthrise image taken by astronaut Bill Anders 58 years earlier as the Apollo 8 crew flew around the Moon.

🚨 Our new buddy: Pileated Woodpecker landed on the patrol car, tapped the window checking on us. Good guy with a beak. We let him roll. Might have to get him a tiny uniform next time — make him the new department mascot. Backup with wings. Don’t mess with our woodpecker. 🪶
