The United States produces more plastic waste than any other country in the world—hundreds of tons per person. About 90% of it ends up in landfills, is burned or shipped overseas.
In 2024, more than 35,000 tons of it was shipped to Malaysia, which received more discarded plastic from rich nations than any other developing country. But in June, Malaysian leaders effectively banned future shipments.

Since his veto last yr, ~4 MILLLION lbs of microfibers entered CA's environment from laundry alone. If we wait until Dec 2025, per his latest veto, the equivalent of >17 MILLION t-shirt’s of microfibers will have become pollution in CA since the Gov. had the chance to take action

While there's been some exciting news out of CA recently (yay no more plastic bags! Yay holding fossil fuel industry accountable!), it doesn’t make up for our deep disappointment that @cagovernor @gavinnewsom failed to take action on microplastics. Again.
