This morning, #TeamBlakespear gathered to honor the men and women who paid the ultimate price in defense of our country — including Mission Viejo’s own Major Megan McClung. My thanks to the City of Mission Viejo, Colonel Charles “Clay” Readinger, the San Diego Veterans Honor Color Guard, and all who organized today’s tribute. Today, we honor, we express gratitude, and we are deeply indebted to the brave men and women who sacrificed everything so we could live freely. 🇺🇸

I am proud to represent members of the military and their families across San Diego and Orange counties. On #MemorialDay‚ we honor and remember the sacrifices made by all those who died serving our great nation in the United States Armed Forces. We would not be the country that we are‚ or enjoy the freedoms that we have‚ without their dedication and willingness to risk their own lives for it.

Great to talk to @CalTransit today about the big challenges we currently face in public transportation and the need to improve service, build ridership and come up with a stable, long-term plan for funding. We have to make this a top priority! The success of public transit is crucial for CA to meet its climate and mobility goals.

I enjoyed participating in a discussion about Alzheimer's disease and advancements made in diagnosing and treating it. CA's population is aging, and this disease afflicts more than 720,000 people in our state. We must step up and provide greater support to seniors, caregivers and all those coping with Alzheimer's and dementia. @EliLillyandCo

It's terrifying and extremely sad that a shooting took place this morning at the Islamic Center of San Diego. I'm closely monitoring the situation and waiting to hear more details from @SanDiegoPD and @CityofSanDiego. My heart goes out to any victims and their families. Violence is never the answer. In this country, we must protect the fundamental right of freedom of religion, and the ability to worship in peace, without fear of violence or discrimination.

Police in San Diego, California responded to reports of an active shooter at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday. A witness said he called the police after what he thought were around 30 gunshots. In an update, local authorities said that the threat has been neutralized. cbsn.ws/42HILcK
