> After making LTCG from Nil to 12.5% > After making STCG from 15% to 20% > After making STT from 0.01 % to 0.05% > After removing indexation on debt funds and taxing at slab rate > After introducing tax on SGB in secondary market from Nil to 12.5% After making so many policy blunders, rupees depreciation and not caring about FII exit, it's so nice of Finance minister to say she is open for public feedback and suggestions. You never needed any public suggestion, it's your arrogance that has put economy in such a big mess. There is no rocket science in knowing that FII would anyday invest in safe US economy at 5% yields because to beat that 5% they've to earn atleast 12-15% in India if you consider rupees depreciation and tax.

The Delhi HC has sentenced activist Gulshan Pahuja to 6 months' jail for lowering the dignity of the Court. Appealing to you to keep your political ideology aside for a moment & listen to Gulshan’s submissions, which the judges dismissed as “generalised statements” in their order. Becoz one day, you, me, or anyone among us could become a victim of the very decay today Gulshan speaks about. Anyway, the almighty justices refused to give any heed to it.

Arvind Kejriwal didn’t just argue his own case for recusal of judge in the Delhi HC today. He showed a MIRROR to the current state of Indian judiciary where certain judges work in a highly compromised manner only to please the Centre. A short summary of the SIX main arguments below. In a well-functioning democracy, any one of these would be enough to put a judge's career in peril. But together, they point towards a deep crisis of credibility in India's judiciary that allows such judges to rise up to High Court level - and then stay there irrespective of their conduct. 1. After just 5 mins of hearing CBI's appeal and without even giving a chance to the accused, Judge Sharma partly stayed and partly held the trial court's order that came after 3 months of day-to-day hearing and a study of 40,000 pages as "erroneous". 2. Judge Sharma went above and beyond CBI's prayers to grant relief even to ED - although ED wasn't even a party to the matter. 3. On earlier occasions too, whenever Judge Sharma presided over Delhi Excise Policy related cases, she has endorsed each and every argument put forth by CBI/ED and accepted all their prayers. 4. While previously hearing bail petitions of the accused, without even a chargesheet being filed by CBI/ED, Judge Sharma almost gave a final verdict holding AAP leaders as guilty. 5. Judge Sharma has attended the events of BJP and RSS affiliated legal body ABAP - showing clear ideological leanings. 6. Judge Sharma's two children are lawyers on the panel of Union government, in effect reporting to the Solicitor General - who is representing CBI in this case.

Asked someone from the industry whether foreign investors are still interested in allocating to India. The TLDR: Interest has pretty much died out. India is seen as geopolitically exposed, especially to an oil shock. There are no real AI plays. Valuations are rich. And the rupee situation doesn't help. On top of that, investors who were sitting on gains have taken money off the table and are now looking at markets like Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Europe etc instead. He also pointed out that our LTCG/STCG structure and the increase in STT have made India less attractive compared to other markets that are seeing inflows. If we need to attract FPIs back, and we do, fixing this feels like pretty low-hanging fruit.

Who cares if lakhs of Indians run from pillar to post to prove that they are eligible to vote? Even the SC has said that they can vote in the next elections, no big deal. EC couldn't care less anyway - they are too obsessed with the performative "purity" of rolls just like how BJP is obsessed with performative piety to Lord Ram. We are all reduced to just that - performative in everything.

This morning, I was reading Chapter 15 of the Bhagavad Gita. One thought stayed with me. “Have courage. Stay humble. Do your duty without attachment.” Life tested this. Some years ago, Shri Jaiprakash Gaur, who built Jaypee Group, came to meet me in London. He had built an empire over his lifetime with hard work and vision. He reached out more than once. He wrote to me. His only wish was simple that what he had built should go into safe hands and be taken forward with the right intent. He even wrote me letters in Hindi, in his own words, expressing his trust. At that time, we could not proceed. Recently, the asset went into a public auction by CoC in the IBC process. Many strong bidders participated. Suddenly, the sentiment and wishes of Jaiprakash Gaur ji came rushing back to me. One by one, everyone dropped out of the bidding. Finally, we were declared the highest bidder publicly. It was a transparent process. We were informed in writing that we had won. But life is never so simple. After some days, the decision was changed. Don’t want to go into the details. That is for the right forum. But I want to share something from my heart. We have no attachment to this asset. If it comes, it is God’s grace. If it goes, that is also his wish. But one thing we believe strongly. When something is promised in dharma, it should not be taken back. In our scriptures also, we see this again and again. Truth, commitment, and fairness are above everything. So, what should one do? Gita gives a simple answer - do your duty, with courage, but without anger or attachment. That is what we will do. We will place the facts in the right way. We will follow the right path. Rest, I leave to God.

Why did India so badly misread Iran? A civilisational answer — not just a strategic one. I write for @thewire_in • India didn’t just make an intelligence failure on Iran. It made a philosophical one. The Modi-Shah worldview is transactional. Iran is civilisational, built on sacrifice, endurance, and three thousand years of Persian memory. • Iran survived four decades of sanctions and assassinations, but did not collapse. This was never irrational stubbornness. It was istiqamat, principled steadfastness. • Nehru understood Iran not as a problem to be managed but as a civilisation to be engaged. He saw in Iran’s anti-colonial instincts a mirror of India’s own, a proud people refusing permanent subordination to great power dictates. It gave India the credibility to speak to Tehran, Cairo, and Belgrade simultaneously. It’s a credibility that was built over decades and squandered in recent years. • Gandhi came from the same Western Indian transactional tradition, yet transcended it entirely. His method was tapasya, voluntary suffering as moral weapon. • Modi’s foreign policy is the precise opposite. It needs the world’s most powerful military alliance behind it before venturing any independent position. • India once knew better. A thousand years of Persian-Indian civilisational exchange gave India the tools to read Iran, in poetry, architecture, philosophy and statecraft. Nehru’s non-alignment gave India credibility with Tehran that no other major power enjoyed. That inheritance was discarded with contempt. • The BJP, and more fundamentally the RSS, holds the institutional wisdom of the Congress era in deep contempt. Not because it has been examined and found wanting, but because it flows from a tradition the Sangh never accepted as its own. • The BJP adopted an Israel mirror trap, seeing Iran through Israeli intelligence and American assessments. The same sources that fabricated WMDs in Iraq and misread Afghanistan completely. Ideological alignment had fully displaced independent strategic thinking in New Delhi. • The cost: Chabahar hangs in uncertainty. Hormuz energy chains face disruption India wasn’t prepared for. And India’s most precious asset, credibility as an independent voice in a multipolar world, has been gravely diminished. The transactional mind finally met its opportunity cost. thewire.in/world/why-indi…

In the early 1950s, Russia was offering crude oil to India in rupees. The US opposed it even then. 95% of the market was in the control of three Western MNCs - Burmah Shell, Stanvac, and Caltex. They refused to accept Russian oil. It was then that Minister Keshav Dev Malviya moved the proposal for oil exploration and production in India itself, which got active support from PM Nehru. US and Britain refused technical help and financial support for oil exploration, arguing that a poor country like India didn’t need to venture out for such an expensive adventure. But India went ahead. ONGC was established in 1955. Within two years, KD Malviya ensured that 100 geologists and geophysicists were trained. By 1959, India struck oil! Since then, ONGC has led India’s energy security programme. It became India’s most profitable company. By 2014, it was debt-free, with cash reserves of 13,000 crore rupees. India produced 27% of its domestic oil needs. Now it is 13%! Come 2025. ONGC is under a debt of 78,000 crore rupees. The money for exploration was diverted to write off loans and dead investment of Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation worth nearly 26,000 crore rupees and fund the deficit of the Union Government by forcing ONGC to buy stakes of HPCL for 36,000 crore rupees, which went to the union budget! So the exploration suffered, and our domestic production of crude oil is falling. I write for National Herald that how the Modi government strangulated oil exploration, profiteered from oil imports, and squeezed money out of the common people in the form of taxes. Now is the time to protect them from rising crude oil prices by giving subsidies, by taking a cue from the UPA government and Dr. Manmohan Singh’s policies. @NH_India @INCIndia @RahulGandhi @kharge

Not one ministry. Not MeitY alone. EVERY ministry gets to block your tweets now. Modi said Emergency was a “scar on democracy.” He’s building the same machine; just with better branding and more departments running it. Article 19(1)(a) doesn’t have an asterisk that reads “unless the government is embarrassed.” This isn’t regulation. This is a censorship assembly line.

“Belongs to the people of India” - which people, Scindia Ji? The 78,569 BSNL workers you silently mass-sacked via VRS? The taxpayers who lost ₹1,757 crore because your govt let Jio use BSNL towers FREE for 10 straight years; CAG confirmed it in writing? The citizens who watched airport & railway contracts; BSNL’s birthright; quietly handed to Jio? You didn’t privatise BSNL. You just starved it of 4G for 8 years while Jio printed money, gutted its workforce, gave its infrastructure to Ambani for free, and slashed its ad budget so it couldn’t even fight back. You don’t need to sell what you’ve already hollowed out. There’s a word for this. It’s not called reform. It’s called a slow-motion heist; with government stamps on every step.

Bhavish Agarwal till date has raised about Rs 54,000 cr ($6 Billion) for all his businesses, ranging from AI to Second Hand cars. To put this in perspective this is what Rs 54,000 cr does for you 1. The total cost of installing the Mk3 Water pump, that greatly alleviated India's water problem - Cost Rs 50,000 Cr 2. Our Entire Rafale deal, was about Rs 58,000 cr 3. The entire first 83 jet order for Tejas, was Rs 50,000 cr 4. ISRO's annual budget, is Rs 18,000 Cr. 33% of what Bhavish raised. 5. The total earnings of Hindi Movie industry, from 2021-2025, was Rs 21,000 cr. Less than 50% of what Bhavish has raised. 6. With Rs 54,000 cr, you can setup 11 Lakh Idli / Dosa outlets 27 lakh Vada pav stalls 36 Lakh Bhel puri stalls With the amount of money he has raised, one could have Setup up a functioning Air Force with advanced Fighter jet Funded ISRO for three years Supplied all the Villages in the country with Bhel Puri or Idli He raised more money than what India's biggest movie industry in 5 years. With Rs 54,000 cr you can do anything. But somehow, Bhavish Agarwal has not been able to setup a functioning, profitable, stable business with that money.
