We just launched the Austin chapter of @LongevityGL and the first gathering was a full house. 🎉 A few months ago I met John Forrest (Co-Founder & CEO of @veravas) at the Sapien Center, and we started talking about bringing the Longevity Global community to ATX. Longevity Global already has ~20 chapters around the world, with an annual conference hosted at the @BuckInstitute. Austin felt like the natural next place to build. Fast forward – last Thursday we hosted the first meetup at Red Fridge Society, and the room was filled with physicians, scientists, biotech founders, and investors – all working on different pieces of the longevity puzzle. 🧬 We went around the room and had everyone briefly introduce themselves and share what they’re building. It was an incredible mix. The group included people like @lineaavey (co-founder of @23andMe), now running the venture fund Humain Ventures with her new co-founder @aneilbaboo. Jim Donnelly, CEO of Humanaut, and Dr. @AnnShippyMD, along with @Jason_A_Scharf, host of the Austin Next Podcast, and @coopgalvin of Endless Health, plus many other biotech founders, clinicians, researchers, and investors. One of my favorite moments was hearing someone say: "𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩’𝙨 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝘼𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣 – 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚." And that really was the vibe in the room. Even though some people are technically working on similar problems, everyone was open to sharing ideas, making introductions, and exploring ways to work together. Austin has quietly become a hub for healthtech, biotech, and longevity innovation, but until now there hasn’t really been a consistent gathering point for this community. That’s what we’re hoping to build. We’re planning to host these gatherings every couple of months and build some real continuity around the community here. We’re also starting to plan something bigger: an annual Longevity Global summit in Austin next year around @sxsw. 👀 Huge thank you to Chris Taylor for hosting us at Red Fridge Society and helping bring the first gathering to life. If you’re a scientist, founder, or investor working in longevity and want to be part of this community, let me know. We’d love to invite you to the next one. We’re also starting to look for sponsors and volunteers as we begin planning the summit next year. Excited to see this community grow. Austin is just getting started. 🚀

A post went viral this week calling people who can't visualize "furniture." I was one of the first 21 people ever documented with aphantasia. I've spent a decade studying it, building a global community around it, and learning from the researchers who named it. You are not furniture. Here's what that post gets wrong.

Rather than telling Covid-19 patients to quarantine and hope for the best, physicians should be more willing to prescribe early treatment, writes Dr. Joseph A. Ladapo wsj.com/articles/too-m… via @WSJ

Regular exposure to heavy metals can lead to a buildup in the body that causes adverse health effects. That is why it’s important to take steps to actively remove these toxic compounds from our bodies.⁣ ⁣ For more information on how to do that, click: shop.annshippymd.com/product/toxin-…
