I am hearing multiple practices are now cancelling appointments to make way for the Wednesday rules. So rather than offering appts, GPs will now be spending their time picking needles out of haystacks. What an absolute waste of time. Access instead of Continuity. Sigh.
Dr Steve Taylor@DrSteveTaylor

Cancelling GP F2F appts so they can process all the requests that come in online - because the contract now demands online access open all of core hours This is a worse service to pts who need GPs most Opening the doors on a full bus service doesn’t create more seats - more GPs

A GP explains why the new online booking system will increase the workload of GP surgeries without any corresponding increase in resources, & the fact that the govt has reneged on national standardised safety measures they originally promised to introduce alongside the new system

Phone the hairdresser and find it fully booked you think "they must be really popular they're so busy" Phone the GP and find it fully booked you think "they're lazy and mustn't be working" That's how the media and politicians have spun the public against their GPs

We would happily see everyone for the equivalent of £25/patient. I assume that you @wesstreeting will be picking up the bill? You can add it to the fuck up that is the redundancy costs for NHS England that you forgot to cost out and has left you looking like a laughing stock.

I've been told to leave Labour conference. When I asked why, I was informed a complaint had been made about me in writing about an incident. I was told I could appeal the decision, but they couldn't tell me who'd made the complaint, or why. So, appeal what?

Labour have revoked the conference passes of two left-wing journalists. Meanwhile, GB News have a massive on site studio, fuelled by a constant supply of smiling Labour ministers. Tells you all you need to know!
Rivkah Brown@rivkahbrown

Weird, same here. At the same time as Owen, I received a similar email rescinding my media pass, due to an unspecified "breach of the event code of conduct". Is Labour purging journalists it doesn't like?

I have agonised over making this public as I didn’t wanted to embarrass the party but after two emails with no response I feel I have to share my concerns at what seems to be a freedom of speech issue. I have done no media this year or interviewed anyone.

Labour has cancelled my Conference Pass. Absolutely pathetic, Trumpian behaviour. They are here suggesting that attempts to question Cabinet members and MPs about Britain facilitating Israel's genocide is a "safeguarding issue". This is clearly insane.

Am I the only person who thinks this? Docs currently earn c £18 (roughly the same as a police const at age 18) and they want a measly £4 pay rise - I know it’s public sector, but seriously? After 6 yrs of training and £100k debt? @TheBMA @thomasdolphin
Valerie (Val) Humphreys@valhumphreys51

@AgnesAyton @Parody_RCGP @wesstreeting Of course, it’s a ludicrous comparison I know. But I think doctors frequently undersell themselves, so was wondering what the NHS budgets for their time. They were on strike for £22 / hr - but that’s a ridiculously small salary for their skill level and training. Imo of course

102,000 hairdressers in England with 40,000 salons 27,000 GPs with 6200 Surgeries 31 million people visit GPs every month, a similar number have haircuts. In can see some issues with this comparison. Not sure anyone died if they got the wrong haircut.

I see people are upset that I won an award for women because I'm the wrong type of woman. I was moved and honoured to have been awarded this by the party's women's group, and that the Lib Dems at all levels have my back and I will continue to fight for liberalism and my community

Schrödinger’s NHS. There is a huge shortage of GPs and yet over 2000 people applied for only THIRTEEN training posts across the country. This is echoed around numerous medical specialties. Thoughts, @wesstreeting?
Dr Steve Taylor@DrSteveTaylor

No problem with Drs wanting to become GPs, there is a problem with even those that make it into training to actually get jobs @wesstreeting @DHSCgovuk @NHSE_WTE need to make sure patients have access to GPs by funding GP roles - they aren’t doing this Can’t see a GP blame 👆🏼

The NHS is on the edge of collapse. Doctors are being forced into unemployment; not because patients don’t need them, but because the Government refuses to fund enough speciality training places. This year alone there were 20,000 more applications than posts available. Without these posts, doctors can’t progress to become consultants or GPs. Yet the Government’s answer is only 1,000 extra places over 3 years. That doesn’t even touch the scale of the crisis. The result? Doctors who want to serve the NHS are shut out, pushed into unemployment, or forced overseas; while patients face long waits for care. It’s an appalling waste of talent and a betrayal of the public. If you’re an F1 doctor in England, this is your chance to push back. Return your strike ballot by 29th Sept. Vote YES; for fair pay, for proper training numbers, and to hold the Government to account for this crisis. No ballot yet? Use this link to request a new one or DM me; bit.ly/F1BallotRequest Leaving doctors unemployed in the middle of an NHS collapse is utterly indefensible from @wesstreeting.

@eabhaaa @LancsPsychEd Please don’t give up. I didn’t get a job in the MTAS debacle. I was devastated at the time. I did get back through the year after despite there being even worse competition (they were 5 year programs). We need people like you with drive and passion for the job.

Despite continued warnings from @BMAResidents competition ratios for doctors looking to get on specialty training programmes have soared again this year. Fresh data published by NHS England for 2025 shows a staggering 91,999 applications were made for 12,833 specialty training posts. That means the overall ratio of applications to places has jumped from 4.68:1 last year to 7.17:1. [1/🧵] medical.hee.nhs.uk/medical-traini…

Reflecting on the nightmare competition ratios for entry to Psychiatry. If you want to be a psychiatrist and haven’t been offered a place, please don’t give up. You can try for the next round or the one after that. You’ll be a better psychiatrist for the posts you can do before.
