But they didn't just abandon Drs They abandoned the PAs who they spent the past decade lying to. And now we have a cohort of graduates facing anxiety around job losses while College Leaders clink wine glasses in Grand Halls congratulating eachother for a job well done Cowards

A PA graduate who describes their qualification as “Medicine” is now employed by the GMC to investigate doctors’ fitness to practise. They are not themselves registered with the regulator they serve. You genuinely could not make this up.
kc isc@kcisc

PA who calls the degree 'Medicine' works for the GMC to assess and investigate concerns about healthcare practitioners. Not themselves a registered PA either.

I will never fault the UK for prioritizing their medical graduates over IMGs when it comes to training posts. Nigerians acting like they do not understand why will always be funny to me. In 2006, OAU denied a colleague admission into medicine despite very high scores in JAMB and post UTME bcos he did not come from the catchment area. South westerners who scored less than him all gained admission. Infact virtually all federal universities in all the geopolitical zones in Nigeria do this nonsense and indigenes benefit from it so let's not start preaching meritocracy all of a sudden.

Im not taking a dig at Nigerian IMGs as it is not just a Nigerian thing. Im only saying prioritization should not be a new concept to a Nigerian bcos it is embedded in every facet of our society and we cheer for it everyday. And the argument about fairness is the one I find funny. The aim of every govt is to improve the chances of their citizens first when resources are scarce, not to be fair. If we had to compete with Cameroonians for employment into the Nigerian civil service, we would have seen protests everywhere. People who are old enough to remember the "Ghana must go" saga will tell you more. Finally prioritization in medical training is not a UK invention. If anything, they caught up late with the rest of the world. The US , Canada and most of the first world have been prioritizing since sumtin sumtin BC. Their graduates have student loans they need to pay back to the govt and that won't happen if the govt cant guarantee them jobs. I wish we would add these nuances when making our arguments.

Am I tripping, but I think the cutoff for Enugu indigenes applying to UNN is higher than other states. And, the cutoff for Northern states is lower. Also, Nigerian IMGs are not the only IMGs seeking jobs in UK. It may not be new to Nigeria, that doesn't make it fair.

I didn’t know that YNP means You’re (the) Next Patient and this refers to the additional ward(s) bed added to a full ward.

@doctor_rahmeh @mantealike2 We can all deal in extremes "Treating all women who have stillbirths as potential criminals who need to be forensically investigated is abhorrent" Highly emotive and fraught moral topics are not served well with hyperbolic arguments

The UK House of Lords has just legalised abortion up to birth. Women can now end the life of their unborn baby at any stage, for any reason, without legal consequences. A truly dark day for Britain.

There will be many unnecessary deaths in Alaska because of this. This is what they have planned globally, btw. They used to incentivise real doctors to go to remote places with good compensation - now they send half trained pseudodoctors.

Seeing a lot of shots being fired between different people vying for council votes A small reminder that we're all on the same team, and some of these people you may have to work closely alongside Then again, who doesn't love the drama?

@parthaskar @LukeAmos__ Framing One could equally say don't make the less shitty situation the enemy of the shitty situation Lots of dreadful options. The only one that would satisfy everyone is more jobs… but given we've all been banging our heads against that wall to no avail the Q is what to do?

As I understand? The number of International Medical Graduates who have now been put on reserve list for UKFPO - after spending time over last few years preparing for it via exams etc? Is 738. That’s the collateral damage Lives overturned as retrospective rules click into gear. Done with zero warning. Organisations which have made money off them via exams, registration fees, union fees: @RCPhysicians @gmcuk @TheBMA Facts. They are of course incredibly valued by all the organisations Which is nice. Extra posts to mitigate? Nope 👎🏽 Extra posts for lesser trained people? Oh yes 👍🏽

Very poor from @SKinnock. I know a GP who triaged an urgent case and rightly directed the pt to A&E. Pt refused to go and informed the ICB who demanded the practice see them. Practice had no appointments left so were threatened with a breach notice. This nonsense is on you.
Rebecca Smith MP@SWDevonRebecca

The government is trumpeting the new GP contract. Patients and GPs alike are not convinced. I’m not sure the minister reassured them.
