Seeing this 1973 map in @FinleyFreibert's article ("a tactical map within a methodical project of gay community decimation"), I wanted to juxtapose a 1962 image in @Anna_Lvovsky's book of an Ohio toilet where police waited behind a peephole to spy gay men 𝒊𝒏 𝒇𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆.

Can someone recommend a good history of statistics book? Who the early statisticians were, the development of the ideas, some context for the work, etc. Not looking for something heavily philosophical (not Taming of Chance).

Entry-level Law prof job seekers: AALS FAR submissions are due in 10 days. As my procrastination today, I thought I'd provide some tips as I come off of two years as hiring chair here at @WashULaw. Here, in no particular order, some advice and thoughts, big picture + small bore:

@OrinKerr I think historians tend to do a good job of this, since so much of an historical work's significance can depend upon (sometimes implicit) analytical moves cashed out over hundreds of pages. I enjoy reading legal academic book reviews, but I wish the norm was to spend more time describing the book.

@SPBPHD I find this really true, and also wonder how much more bearable the toxicity feels because so many of the actors conspicuously perform being better people in real life. Sort of like the Neil Patrick Harris/Barney Stinson effect.

as I watch Succession, I’m trying to recall a TV show where I so actively despised virtually all the characters yet still felt compelled, by the force of the writing and acting, to keep watching it. reminds me of being in grad school.

@AaronLecklider of a genuine misunderstanding, especially if there were multiple copies of the file made at some point, so I wouldn’t despair yet!

@AaronLecklider I’d try to hire a local genealogist or graduate student to visit the court and scan the file—state archives/libraries sometimes list service providers. Fwiw, I’m not sure if the courthouse/district court are referring to the same building, but this strikes me as within bounds
