@FinleyFreibert @clancynewyork Fascinating! (And I look forward to reading the article!)
English

Seeing this 1973 map in @FinleyFreibert's article ("a tactical map within a methodical project of gay community decimation"), I wanted to juxtapose a 1962 image in @Anna_Lvovsky's book of an Ohio toilet where police waited behind a peephole to spy gay men 𝒊𝒏 𝒇𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆.

Entry-level Law prof job seekers: AALS FAR submissions are due in 10 days. As my procrastination today, I thought I'd provide some tips as I come off of two years as hiring chair here at @WashULaw. Here, in no particular order, some advice and thoughts, big picture + small bore:

@SPBPHD Just seemed odd to talk of starring roles in Cabaret and make no mention of who played Sally! (Though I guess less so if it was pre-Liza?)
English

a friend just saw this in London and told me to get my ass over there pronto to see it. I almost did last week! Now i can just see it in NYC next spring ✊🏾

The Olivier-winning revival of "Cabaret" directed by Rebecca Frecknall and now running in London will open at the August Wilson Theater on Broadway next spring. Casting not yet announced, but Eddie Redmayne expected. nytimes.com/2023/07/11/the…
English

@SPBPHD Very excited about this! Also, is this not an, uh, odd way to describe the original cast?

English

@gllevine @OrinKerr @k_redburn (Can attest that Kate does a remarkably generous and insightful job surveying the arguments, for which I’m very grateful!)
English

@OrinKerr I think historians tend to do a good job of this, since so much of an historical work's significance can depend upon (sometimes implicit) analytical moves cashed out over hundreds of pages.
See, e.g., @k_redburn 's review of @Anna_Lvovsky's "Vice Patrol": lawreview.uchicago.edu/print-archive/…

The @michlawreview Book Review issue is out, and it’s a banger! I reviewed @Anna_Lvovsky’s “Vice Patrol”, exploring its lessons for today’s queer spaces. Vice Patrol is a great book for anyone interested in queer history, policing, expertise, and more! repository.law.umich.edu/mlr/vol121/iss…

@Hugh_Ryan @CeciliaGentili Congratulations, Hugh--what wonderful news!
English

I’m honored to receive the Stonewall Book Award for nonfiction, and to share it with @CeciliaGentili’s incredible FALTAS! Happy pride!!
English

Very grateful for @ariezrawaldman's review of VICE PATROL in @michlawreview--not just a deeply generous reflection on the book but (more importantly!) an insightful critique of regulation and surveillance against queer life today.

The case is U.S. v. Cerda in the EDNY, per Judge Gary Brown.

Officer watches video w/image below, in which suspect brings object into home, & gets warrant to search "based on my training and experience as a police officer" that object is a gun.
Judge: Um, that's a bouquet of flowers. Motion to suppress granted.

So excited for this to come out. Congrats to all the contributors! @whitstrub @timothysw @ykristyn @JasonChernesky @rizzo_pubhist @cstrasRUN @Anna_Lvovsky and many more!
English

@SPBPHD I find this really true, and also wonder how much more bearable the toxicity feels because so many of the actors conspicuously perform being better people in real life. Sort of like the Neil Patrick Harris/Barney Stinson effect.
English

@mfkantor @gaystheword Out in the wild and on foreign shores! :) Thank you so much, Max.
English

@AaronLecklider of a genuine misunderstanding, especially if there were multiple copies of the file made at some point, so I wouldn’t despair yet!
English

@AaronLecklider I’d try to hire a local genealogist or graduate student to visit the court and scan the file—state archives/libraries sometimes list service providers. Fwiw, I’m not sure if the courthouse/district court are referring to the same building, but this strikes me as within bounds
