@liamsims @sg_soc There are quite some early modern images depicting this phrase, especially by Netherlandish artists, such as Goltzius and Rubens

@liamsims @sg_soc It believe it is Bacchus (with wine & grapes), Venus, Ceres (with cornucopia) and Cupid. Probably inspired by the phrase: 'without Ceres and Bacchus, Venus would freeze'.

Anyone have any idea who these figures might be? I wondered three graces, but the one on the left seems a bit masc. Not sure if the initials in the table (RV?) mean anything. Possibly a copy of an engraving or picture. Done in 1750 & part of the @sg_soc archive.

@DirkSchoenaers @AstridBeckers1 The Creation of Eve and the Expulsion are both painted by hand. Only Adam stands out because of the black printing ink. In both scenes the position of Adam’s arm holding the fruit has been changed rather creatively too

@DirkSchoenaers @AstridBeckers1 There is also a rather charming reuse of parts of a woodcut in the central scenes. The figure of Adam in the woodcut with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil has been reused in the Creation of Eve and Expulsion from Paradise.

Nog leuker is dat ik door kan aan @UniUtrecht! Volgende maand begin ik met promotieonderzoek naar de houding t.o.v. planten en dieren in Nederlandse teksten (1550-2000), m.b.v. AI. Daarbij word ik begeleid door promotor Els Stronks en co-promotoren @BagheriAyoub en @FolgertK 😁😁

Leuk nieuws! Afgelopen maand kreeg ik mijn diploma uitgereikt voor de researchmaster Nederlandse Literatuur en Cultuur van de @UniUtrecht. Mijn scriptie ging over de vraag hoe goed vroegmoderne teksten bewaard zijn en hoe ecologische formules helpen met een inschatting daarvan.

Hoera, @HugenJelmar heeft gisteren zijn proefschrift succesvol verdedigd!
