Returning briefly to this hellscape to note that my PhD thesis is now available online through the University of Leicester repository! 'Sociability, Provincial Antiquarianism and Networks of Knowledge in the Spalding Gentlemen's Society, 1710-1755'. figshare.le.ac.uk/articles/thesi…

The Bibliographical Society
We are having technological troubles with internet at the Society of Antiquaries and tonight’s lecture will likely not be broadcast online. Our speaker will be recording his talk at a later date.

Privileged to have been playing the @demontforthall organ for the @uniofleicester grads this week. Always a pleasure! The organ is a real jewel for the city. It also makes an incredible backdrop to this photo (c) @uniofleicester of Lord Vallance who received an honorary degree.

@CamLibResearch @Quaritch @theUL @JillWhitelock There’s a curious ‘Grolier’ binding in Sandars; old but messed with. But this is more likely Hagué: a Cologne 1503 work on St Ursula. Bought by the great Stephen Gaselee at Fairfax Murray’s sale in 1917 (in which cat. attributed to Hagué). Gold initials look odd too. F150.d.1.10.

A magnificent sixteenth-century strapwork binding ... or is it? Day 3 of our #QuaritchAdventCalendar is this 1548 edition of the works of Catullus, Tibullus, and Propertius, bound not in the sixteenth century but in the nineteenth by the notorious forger Théodore Hagué ...

Going to post an image of lovely Monty every day this month by way of a little memorial (#dailybabe). Here he is aged 3 or 4 when we’d just met him at the Blue Cross in the summer of 2013, sitting with his toy owl Archimedes. With @aglmasters. #CatsofTwittter

We are excited to show off 24 beautiful books from our forthcoming catalogue of bindings in the form of an Advent calendar! Our book for Day 1 is the smallest of the bunch, a magnificent binding of silver filigree over blue silk on a miniature London Almanack.

@liamsims As some else said, it's very French. Whether it's chateaux or churches they seem to like their restorations to make things look as good as new. I knew a French architect who always complained that English country houses looked "not so very clean".
