Flashback to 2008 when John McCain shut down a racist line of questioning. I miss this Republican Party.

One time I was in a semi-public forum where we got to ask John McCain a question— mine to him was simple. “Senator McCain, you have been in congress since I was in diapers. I now have my second child in diapers, don’t you think it’s time to pass the torch?” People kind of gasped, because not many had challenged the Senator this way. He lit up bright red, clinched his fists and replied as politely as he could muster, but the answer was essentially “no,” he believed his personal agenda was too valuable to retire. So What happened? He ran, got elected, and his final parting vote was his demonstrative thumbs down to vote against repealing Obamacare. He then got sick and died in office, leaving a seat to be endorsed by his family to go to a Democrat as a protest to Trump. We would likely still have one if not two Republicans Senators in Arizona had Senator McCain retired and spent his final years in reflection and with family. It did not do himself any service and did not do Arizona a service by staying in office this way. We must have a stronger Republican Party to defend the country and win.
