A wet and windy evening in the West as over 30,000 premises head into their 11th night without power and sadly some have a forecast of 4 more days before power is restored and cold nights ahead. My heart goes out to anyone still without power.

Many Galway homes continue to be severely impacted by power outages and has potential to impact on mental and & wellbeing of people in these communities

I have just been informed that hundreds of old age pensioners who turned up for their weekly payments at post offices in some of the worst storm effected areas of the midlands and west have been told they cannot be paid today due to computer outages . I sent emails to Government Minister’s two years ago and again last year about lack of planning for extreme weather and no flood warnings. Today I sent the below email, hopefully we will finally see some more planning, resourcing and real adaptation.

The cold is tough on 100k without power but the rain will be welcome by as one follower said they are harvesting the rainfall to fill water butts to flush toilets on day 7 of no power or water. While another follower is taking water from local stream to fill toilets.
