We paid for Angela Rayner’s education. We paid her wages when she worked for the local council. We paid her wages when she became an MP. We even paid the settlement that enabled her to buy a house. Tax payers have funded every aspect of her entire life.

Our Plan for Change is about putting working people first. The £3 bus fare cap has already cut costs for families. We’re extending it — making travel simpler, cheaper and better for everyone.

Stopping the sustainable farming incentive, (a key element of the English nature friendly farming budget) is a straight up attack on nature restoration. What is going on @SteveReedMP ?

@natalie_msb @1GarethWynJones Perhaps that’s what you should’ve said then rather than responding with an insult directed at ‘farmers’. I reacted to what you said, not what you apparently meant.

@Anne_Fenn @1GarethWynJones I’m a farmer who voted for remain so I’m well aware that not all farmers voted for Brexit. But the attitude and logic that voted for Brexit is the same attitude and logic that I see in these moaning farmers now.

@Anne_Fenn @1GarethWynJones It was the same ignorance numpties who voted for Brexit who are now blaming Labour for the consequences of Tory Brexit. The Farmers who voted for Remain are not looking for a scapegoat because they did not cause the problem.

@natalie_msb @1GarethWynJones Except they voted for Brexit by the same proportion as the rest of the people - same split over age demographics, areas of the country and other criteria and there’s no rose tinted glasses over the effective of the last govt’s agricultural policies either

@1GarethWynJones Farmers problems are 100% down to the Tories and Brexit that the Farmers voted for. Farmers were the ignorant fools who voted for their own problems. They now try to blame Labour to pass the buck for their own stupid mistakes. Ignorant half wits.

I’m wondering why I keep getting emails from @DefraGovUK banging on about crop rotation and selective pesticide use like farmers haven’t been practicing these techniques since the DAWN OF TIME. We are in a world of trouble if Gov think stuff we already do is new and “the answer”

A brilliant and accurate thread 👏🏻 Everyone should read this - what is happening is remarkable and grim Highly highly regressive Unravelling about two decades of effort and thought by everyone
Joe Stanley@JoeWStanley

In the context of everything farmers & society have been told since 2017, this is insane. Overnight @UKLabour has ejected the foundational principle that we need more nature & climate action across our landscape in favour of culture wars. 🧵 1/ theguardian.com/environment/20…

@herdyshepherd1 Exactly this, payments as reimbursement for purchases and/or work involved in SFI or loss of revenue not subsidies for doing nothing. It’s really not surprising that ‘farm subsidies’ are dirty words to hard working tax payers if this isn’t clear

@greenarteries With A14 a stretch of road lined by short green plastic tree guard sentinels mile by mile with the odd tree sticking its head out and saying ‘I’m here!’ whilst all its mates died through bad regional ‘improvements’, I hold little hope for more than constipation and bad decisions

Just to clarify - tax breaks for actors: good Tax breaks for farmers cause the implosion of the entire economy, the collapse of the NHS and a plague of locusts

@Juliest101 You won’t believe it Julie but food producers are looking out for yours and everybody’s food security. Has it not crossed your mind that each of them owning land could sell up, pay the tax and never have to work another day? Offers come in the post quite regularly you know!

@JamesMelville There was a suggestion that agriculture should rebrand as ‘food production’ several years ago. ‘Food producer’ protests, ‘Food producers’ take out loans to buy ‘food producing equipment’. The price of ‘food producing’ has skyrocketed. It’s pathetic dumbing down but here we are

I cannot express enough how horrendous this statement is from Keir Starmer. He’s literally pitching farmers against the NHS. And framing them as tax dodgers. It’s absolutely disgraceful.

@FarmingUK Disingenuous - whole new meaning when you read ‘food production’ instead of farmers. Poorest in society get a life of reliance on NHS and struggle to learn or work from being malnourished. Why put more spanner’s in the works of making sure your nation can be adequately fed?
