So you see, we built this button, a magic button, and when you click it, it gets you a job interview. It gets you a bunch of job interviews. All you have to do is click the button.

I’m not sure I’ll ever top 2025 when it comes to wildlife photography. That feeling is such a blessing and a curse at the same time but the unknown is what makes life worth living.

@AnthonyCastrio i wouldn't say it's good at cost optimization. because they are not similar in their intelligence. having a similar Slop profile just means that it was trained on the output of the model that is close to it or it was trained on the same dataset as the model close to it.

@TylerAlterman a desire to survive is already innate within us, we don't need a reason (but we will invent many to fill the time).

Tyler is finishing a book, slow to reply
Dune is my favorite sci fi series. But it's kind of weird that Herbert devoted 1000s of pages to humanity's survival strategy and 0 pages to what survival is for

the thing that gets people on transit isn’t free fares it’s not having to check a schedule. a bus that costs $2 and comes every 6 minutes will outperform a free bus that comes every 30 minutes every single time. frequency is the product. the fare is a rounding error

@shycollie @jaymart222 Yea but the many people that have it will be big mad if you take it away, so I understand why a politician will try anything else first.

I am a YIMBY. I believe we need more housing to increase competition to lower rents and meet demand. I do not for the life of me understand how the city can work with homeowners to build ADUs where they can then set whatever rent the market can bare while demanding rent freezes on functionally obsolete buildings that are going bankrupt. It’s illogical and counterproductive.
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor

If you own a home with a basement, attic, or backyard, chances are you’ve thought about using it to earn a little extra income or as space for a loved one. We want to make it as easy (and affordable) as possible for you to do that. NYC recently legalized ADUs — but for too many New Yorkers, they’re still tied up in bureaucracy and expense. We're fixing that. Our new toolkit at nyc.gov/aduforyou includes preapproved building plans and a financing calculator so you can get right to building. If we want New York to remain a city for everyone, we have to make it easier for homeowners to stay here. ADU for You will do just that.

@BecomingCritter Yeah I messed up modeling ball size as a binary variable. I have no idea where the cut-off would be (also wasn't sure how to categorize handball). There's a case to be made for Volleyball if you're really open-minded about what hitting a ball with a tool means.

@jaymart222 I'm not sure either, but he seems to be pretty open to adjusting policy based on data (and actively seeks that data) which makes me hopeful that he'll eventually arrive at the correct answer.

@AnthonyCastrio Ideologically, I’m not sure he would agree that it needs to change considering his socialist base, but I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt on this issue.

am i the only one who feels like "you can rent a shed in someones backyard" is less of a big win as far as housing affordability goes, and more of an unsettling harbinger of our backslide out of prosperity?
Mark D. Levine@MarkLevineNYC

One of the hardest fought wins in the big City of Yes zoning change was the legalization of “Ancillary Dwelling Units” (ADUs)—a tiny house in the back yard, home over a garage, basement apartment etc. This zoning change could unlock as much as 25k desperately needed new homes in NYC’s low-density neighborhoods…but only if homeowners take advantage it. Now @NYCHousing is launching new tools to help: find out if your address qualifies, access low-interest financing, see pre-made designs etc. All here: nyc.gov/aduforyou This is just one more way housing creation in NYC is entering a whole new era. Thanks to all who fought hard for this.
