@tanya_plibersek I am bewildered and saddened by these ill informed decisions that will stop investment in irrigated agriculture due to the consumptive pool being reduced and controlled by the commonwealth and non farm water owners. No irrigation = no money for rural employment and prosperity

I don’t want Australians to wake up to a dead river one day and know that their Parliament could’ve done something, but didn’t. When I visited the Basin in 2022 a local showed me this photo of the river in their town when it ran dry. The Senate needs to pass this Bill before the end of the year. Communities and the environment can’t afford for us not to.

Winter Canola still amazes me. First pic: For the bank manager. Second & Third pic: Same spot, 14 days apart. Last application of urea tomorrow, followed by a fungicide in a few weeks.

@BruceLarcombe Was wondering what the damage was there? Guess it depends on maturity and shattering tolerance?

@Pontaragrain Saw that affect with Canola a number of years ago, delayed flowering by 7-10 days, was a dry season, reduced yield. Having said that, have also seen it a plus in dry starts, help hold moisture. Still feel shorter stubble best if possible for E-W.

Ok Stubble huggers, stubble haters. And the east -west seeding orientation believers, it’s all here. East-west wide row wheat stubble and the effects on the canola crop. Looking east the crop on north side is happily soaking in the rays but the adjacent rows are shaded/stunted.
