Gaza’s Ongoing Tragedy: A Call for Justice and Lasting Peace The unfolding humanitarian crisis in Gaza is a profound tragedy that continues to shock the conscience of the world. Images of destroyed homes, bombed hospitals, and lifeless children are a brutal reminder of the cost of political failure and military aggression. The people of Gaza, most of whom are civilians with no involvement in political or military decisions, are living through what many observers and humanitarian organisations describe as collective punishment. The Humanitarian Catastrophe Gaza, already suffering under years of blockade, has descended into a nightmare of relentless bombings, infrastructure collapse, and medical system breakdown. International organisations, including the United Nations and Médecins Sans Frontières, have repeatedly warned of the dire consequences of ongoing military assaults. Civilians are trapped with nowhere safe to go, food and water supplies are dwindling, and healthcare services are barely functioning amid the rubble. What Outcome Should We Strive For? The world must push for an immediate ceasefire, followed by a durable and just resolution that respects the rights and dignity of both Palestinians and Israelis. A sustainable outcome involves: Immediate humanitarian relief and access to aid for Gaza's civilian population. End to the blockade that has turned Gaza into what many describe as the world’s largest open-air prison. Accountability for war crimes—independent investigations into attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure. A long-term political solution, not more short-term truces that lead back to violence. This includes addressing the root causes: occupation, displacement, and denial of rights. A peaceful resolution respects international law, ensures security for all peoples in the region, and ends the cycles of violence that have persisted for generations. The British Government’s Role: A Question of Moral Responsibility The British government’s muted response to the large-scale bombing of civilians in Gaza has been criticised by human rights groups and a growing segment of the British public. While some official statements mention the need for restraint and adherence to international law, the government has stopped short of condemning attacks on civilians in unequivocal terms or imposing meaningful sanctions or arms embargoes. This reluctance stems from a combination of factors: Geopolitical alliances: Maintaining close ties with strategic allies like the United States and Israel often overrides human rights concerns. Arms trade interests: The UK is a significant arms exporter, and some of these weapons have reportedly been used in the conflict. Political caution: Successive British governments have avoided taking bold stances on Middle Eastern conflicts to maintain a veneer of neutrality while securing economic and diplomatic interests. Why Stronger Action is Essential Silence or tepid responses in the face of blatant human rights abuses only embolden perpetrators and deepen injustice. The British government, with its historical involvement in the region and its professed commitment to international law, has a moral and legal duty to: Demand an immediate ceasefire. Stop arms sales to any party committing war crimes. Support international investigations into violations of humanitarian law. Champion a genuine peace process based on justice, rights, and equality. Conclusion The world is watching Gaza burn, and history will judge those who stood by in silence. British leadership could make a crucial difference by shifting from passive observation to proactive peace-making. The goal must be an end to suffering, an end to occupation, and a future where every child—whether Palestinian or Israeli—can grow up in peace and dignity. @oxfamgb #FreePalestine #palestineprotest #PalestineRefugees @UKLabour #freepalesti̇ne

For once, I agree with @CeeMacBee Starmer wants to be “at the heart of Europe” and nationalise British Steel. These two things are fundamentally incompatible under EU state aid rules. This is classic Keir: warm rhetorical gestures in both directions, while refusing to resolve the actual trade-offs. The contradictions are becoming impossible to hide.
Catherine McBride OBE@CeeMacBee

Starmer wants to get closer to the EU and .... Starmer also wants to nationalise British Steel... 🤔 Not sure these two ambitions are compatible. 💰 But both will send £ billions of UK money 1. to China (for steel plant) and 2. to the EU to follow their laws. open.substack.com/pub/catherinem…

@FranceskAlbs Demanding to put an end to a genocide, the slaughter of children, the holocaust of our times, should not require any courage or compromise, this is the normal thing to do! I’m baffled by the silence of European leaders. Spain is doing the right thing!

European diplomats and politicians, please remember: there is a genocide ongoing. Ask yourselves what would you do, if we were in 1930. Let's halt the multilateral disorder. Let's work together for a decolonised multilateralism premised upon dignity and human rights -for real.

I have complained about this to the BBC: Dear BBC Complaints Team, I am writing to complain about a segment on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg (@bbclaurak) broadcast on 10 May 2026. During the interview with Richard Tice (@TiceRichard) of Reform UK, Mr Tice stated that the Green Party is “the anti-Semitic Green party.” This was a serious accusation. My concerns: -No right of reply No Green Party representative was present to respond. The presenter did not mention that the Green Party had not been given an opportunity to reply. -Failure to challenge Laura Kuenssberg did not question, challenge, or provide any context/counterpoint to the claim. She simply moved on. -Breach of due impartiality BBC Editorial Guidelines require serious allegations in political contexts to be properly tested and for due weight to be given to opposing views. This did not occur. The Green Party is led by Zack Polanski (@ZackPolanski), who is Jewish. No context was provided to viewers. I believe this fell short of the BBC’s standards on fairness and impartiality. Please investigate and consider a clarification/correction. Thank you. James #BBCLauraK
Saul Staniforth@SaulStaniforth

Richard Tice is asked about racist comments made by a Reform councillor He immediately pivots to antisemitism & calls the Green party "the antisemitic party". LK doesn't challenge that. Tice is then asked if the councillors comments are wrong & inappropriate. He refuses to say

“They say: ‘Our grandfathers fought.’ But did they fight — or engage in mass rape of children in front of their parents, mass murder, torture of innocent civilians, looting, and legalized pillaging? The atrocities committed by the so-called ‘liberators’ began long before Germany. Even in Crimea, Soviet commanders were forced to acknowledge rampant violence by Red Army soldiers against civilians. As the war moved into Eastern Europe — Western Ukraine, the Baltics, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Yugoslavia, and finally Germany — the scale of rape, torture, murder, and looting only grew. In Poland, mass rapes of women and girls became widespread, despite Poles having nothing to do with the occupation of the USSR. This makes it impossible to explain such crimes simply as ‘revenge against Germans.’ According to British historian Antony Beevor, Soviet troops raped around two million European women during and after World War II. German historian Barbara Johr estimated that up to 600,000 women may have been raped in Berlin alone. Numerous reports and testimonies describe horrific crimes: rape accompanied by torture, mutilation, and murder. These crimes involved not only ordinary soldiers, but, according to multiple historical accounts, also senior Soviet officers and generals. At the same time, looting was effectively legalized. In 1944, Joseph Stalin officially allowed Soviet servicemen to send ‘trophies’ home from occupied territories. Entire train wagons of stolen property later became linked to senior commanders, including Georgy Zhukov himself. Even after the war, investigations inside the USSR uncovered massive quantities of looted valuables, furniture, paintings, jewelry, furs, and luxury goods in Zhukov’s possession. Some documented acts of cruelty remain almost impossible to comprehend. Witness accounts and archival materials describe torture and killings of civilians, including children, carried out by Soviet troops in occupied territories. So when people repeat the slogan ‘Our grandfathers fought,’ the question remains: did they liberate Europe — or leave behind another trail of terror, rape, torture, and mass violence?”

"But it's for his security..." Do other MPs & journalists get £5 million for their security? MPs get death threats. So do I. I've been assaulted by Farage's goons. Farage backed the riot inciters like Lucy Connolly. He endangers us all. He doesn't get to play victim.

A young BBCQT audience member posed a stinging rebuke, asking Jenrick: “How long will this go on for before people realise that grifters like you and your colleagues are the problem?” The MP for Newark seemed rattled by the exchange and immediately resorted to immigration rhetoric in response. The youngster has received a wave of support on social media, with many praising his approach as a blueprint for how the British media should challenge politicians.

Israel just wiped out an entire family today in Salsakiyeh, South Lebanon. 13 civilians murdered inside the same house where they had taken refuge from Israeli bombs. Children. Women. Men. All massacred. This is not a “ceasefire.” It is the systematic slaughter of civilians.

The Brexit camp is now in exactly the same defensive position Remain was in 2016. Scaremongering with “Tell them again” and claiming many Remainers would U-turn. But the polls keep shifting: 59% want to rejoin, 75% in The Times reader poll, 87% of Labour members. You’re now the ones desperately protecting the failing status quo. The public mood has moved on.

A reminder that the Leave campaign has had a slogan ready to go since the last referendum. 'Tell them again' looks like the easiest win in political history to me. The Rejoin terms would be so abject that, whatever the polls say now, many 2016 Remainers would vote to stay out

In 2016, Zack Polanski hosted and spoke at fundraisers for the Red Cross. In 2017, Nigel Farage gave speeches for the AFD, who the German authorities have designated an extremist organisation, and which uses Nazi slogans. Which do you think UK Press is attacking right now?
